Hello,

IAmSinistar started this thread about Missing Soundtracks from GOG games and we're trying to figure out (among other things) if it's possible to get the music somewhere in the folders of the installed game.
But neither of us owns the game, so any help would be very much appreciated.

What we're looking for is the path and format of music/ soundtrack files.

Cheers!

P.S. Kind of creepy to be the first to post, especially as one not owning the game.

Someone posted about Grimm! Yay!

I'll have a look at the weekend to see if the music is in there in an understandable format. The game is based on the Unreal engine if that helps (I don't know - you might have experience of extracting music from the Unreal equivalent of .wad files)

Thanks for the reply and for taking the trouble to check the game folders out!!

Any info regarding the format is much appreciated, even if it's none of the common ones - we do have a list of tools for extracting media files :-)

Okay, there's nothing obvious in there. The game folder is split by episode with few common files beyond the GoG ones. I'm assuming that the music isn't built into the .umap files, but there are a number of SND_xxxxx.upk files; one of which is called SND_Grimm_Song.upk (presumably the main theme).

Does this help?

Yes, it does (there are tools to extract music from .upk files and convert it to common formats), thank you for taking the time. :-)

The .umap files are (from reading around the Internet) related to graphics content. I assume that "SND" in the SND_xxxxx.upk file names stands for "sound" which should cover any sounds, SFX and music content.

If I may "abuse" your time and kindness a bit more, could you please let me know:

1. Are those SND_xxxxx.upk files in a specific folder per episode? If yes, is there a pattern to it? Would it be possible to post the exact path for each?
2. Do any of those "xxxxx" parts in the file names hint to actual music besides the one you posted? Maybe file size is also an indicator?
3. I know that this is much to ask but I have to ask - I assume that you have the game installed, so would you be willing to spend some time and take some screenshots displaying the files, names and size, of a few of those episodes, so I can get a better picture?
It's ok if not, you've been quite helpful as it is.

Cheers! :-)

Okay, from what I can see, each episode has its own folder (e.g. Episode 4 of the first series is in "\American McGees Grimm\American McGees Grimm - Season 1\1-4 PussBoots"

The majority of the relevant content is in "\American McGees Grimm\American McGees Grimm - Season 1\1-4 PussBoots\GrimmGame\Content\Packages\PussBoots\SND_PussBoots". In here, there's a "SND_PussBoots_Music.upk" - although it's only c 283kb. There are three other files in here -"SND_PussBoots_Dark_VO.upk, SND_PussBoots_Light_VO.upk and SND_PussBoots_VO_InGame,upk" - each just over a meg.

There's also a "common" folder in each episode (e.g. "\American McGees Grimm\American McGees Grimm - Season 1\1-4 PussBoots\GrimmGame\Content\Packages\Common" which contains "SND_Grimm_Song.upk").

File size seems a bit on the small size to me though.

I've tried to attach a picture.
