Game installed no problem, launch it from anywhere (root location or GoG client) and after getting the pop-up that lets me decide what graphics resolution I want the game simply shows a black screen with Alone4.exe not responding.

I have tried running as admin and compatibility issues, all the resolution settings and uninstalling and reinstalling.

I have the same problem but in one of my PC i have a gtx 980 ti and the game plays just fine but in my second PC i have an rtx 2080 and the game crashes just like yours do what GPU do you use?

I bought it 4 years ago and still can't play the game, I tried everything but without success...

It's 2024 and here I am. Your post was the first thing I saw in a google search. I was playing around and remember I was using Win98 at the time. So, I switched compatibility mode (Using Win 11 22H2) and it loaded the game up finally.

Okay, so it seems what happened. In my haste I just kept spamming the 'Enter' key (big one, not the one on number pad) and it skipped the infogame splash screen and straight onto the game menu.

Hope that works for you all. Tried to capture an in game screenshot as proof but wouldn't allow for some odd reason.
