I used to own this game as a kid and remember on the midi version that right before a monster shows up and the music changes, there was this orchestra burst sound (don't know how to describe it, but it happens in the attic before the monster jumps through the window, etc). I've noticed on youtube that on the cd version that sound doesn't seem to happen. The nostalgia for me stems from when that sound used to make me jump. Is there a way to turn on midi instead of cd audio on the gog version so that the sound I'm referring to occurs? If so then I will buy this game from gog.
I know exactly the sound you're referring to. So far, it seems like the GOG.com version only includes the enhanced CD music, and not the FM MIDI music of the floppy versions (or, possibly, it includes both versions but there's a bug with the configuration utility that keeps it from successfully changing the music to anything but the enhanced stuff). And no, the enhanced sound track does not include the orchestra burst you're talking about.

A bit disappointing, but I would still recommend you buy the game. One of us may stumble across a way to enable the non-enhanced music, considering there're more than one of us who prefer it!
