As I didn't find a clear guide to make The Nations aka. Alien Nations 2 run well on Windows 10 i decided to write this topic.
The problems I encountered where:
-Cursor Ghosting
-Box around the Cursos when i move
-Laggy Camera
-Laggy Game
The way i made it work as it should (I hope):
*Disable all Compatibility of the exe file*
*Disable all Windows DPI modifications*
Right click on the shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility Tab -> Change for all users (in the bottom)
And except "Run this program as an administator" I un-ticked all.
As well as in the "Change high DPI settings" I un-ticked all.
->This resolved the laggy nature of everything<-
*Add Narzoul's DDrawCompat to the game files*
From the github site: github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/releases
I downloaded the latest version and in the zip is a file "ddraw.dll"
Copy it to the game folder /bin, in my case: "D:\GOG.com\The Nations Gold\bin"
->This resolved the cursor<-
This is all. In the tools folder i just left the game settings as they where but just to be sure my settings are:
Setttings: Benutzerdefiniert (that word with B)
AGP Texture Memory -> On
Texture limit -> 4000
Resolution -> fix -> 1024 x 768
To get to this settings you go from the game folder to the "tools" folder in my case "D:\GOG.com\The Nations Gold\tools" and open "setRegTrouble.exe"
This is all the info i think someone would need to make it run properly.
Have fun and enjoy GOG (Good Old Games) :D
