I installed Alien Nations on my laptop, which is running windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
Upon trying to run the game, an error>OK box pops up with the following text:
"The procedure entry point CreateActCtxW could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll."
Clicking ok causes the error>OK box to simply pop up again, ad infinitum. Sometimes, after clicking OK a bunch of times, the game DOES run, but without sound. The error>OK box still doesn't go away though, it remains on the desktop, 'underneath' the game, still there when I exit out of the game.
Any help would be appreciated.

According to -> this <- your OS is to blame. The game tries to call the function which isn't present on Win2k.

Besides that, it seems that your notebook doesn't meet the requirements posted on Alien Nations gamecard. I know that original game had quite low reqs, but maybe GOG made some changes to ensure compatibility with newer OS.

I'm no specialist but those are first things that come to mind.

Hmm well it seems I won't be running this game on my notebook then. I have been able to get it to run on my main PC at home which is running XP, so it's not the end of the world. Oh well, thanks for your help.

One thing you can try is to run the game directly from AN.exe, not GOG shortcut. Chance is that any alterations were made through goggame.dll and gogwrap.exe, and original files were left untouched.
