Unfortunatly, I could not create a new topic for this one.
Deutsch/German:
Für Besitzer des Missions Packs bzw. der Gold Edition, die sich die GOG Version für eine einfachere Nutzung besorgt haben gibt es eine Möglichkeit auch die physischen Versionen problemlos ohne CD spielen zu können. So ist man nicht darauf angewiesen, dass THQNordic sich weigert die Gold Edition oder das MissionsPack zu veröffentlichen und man braucht die CD Version nur noch für die Installation.
Achtung! Änderungen werden auf eigene Verantwortung an den Spieldateien vorgenommen.
Die GOG Version unterscheidet sich scheinbar nicht wirklich von der physischen Version. Dem Spiel wird von GOG lediglich zugesagt das die CD im Laufwerk ist. Auch damals schon war es dem Spiel egal welche Die Völker-CD im Laufwerk lag. Ob es die Demo Version aus einer Zeitschrift oder irgendeine andere offizelle CD war. Das Spiel war in der Hinsicht immer pflegeleicht. Also was braucht es?
a. die installierte GOG Version von Die Völker
b. die installierte physische Version von JoWood (Die Völker Gold Edition oder Die Völker + Missions Pack)
Was muss getan werden?
1. Sucht im Windows-Ordner (in der Regel C:\Windows) nach folgenden Dateien (Achtung ihr braucht AdminRechte)
AlienNations_usa.ini/AlienNations_Fra.ini (egal welche) und dievölkergold.ini
2. AlienNations_usa.ini/AlienNations_Fra.ini gehören zur GOG Installation. Öffnet eine davon und kopiert die gesammte "CDSearchPath=" Zeile
3. Bei der völkergold.ini braucht ihr jedenfalls AdminSchreibrechte
3.a Rechtsklick auf dievölkergold.ini und öffnet das Eigenschaftenfenster
3.b geht unter den Reiter "Sicherheit" anschließend auf die "Bearbeiten..." Schaltfläche
3.c Gebt dem Eintrag "Benutzer (PCNAME\Benutzer)" die Rechte Ändern und Schreiben
3.d Klickt dann auf Übernehmen
4. Öffnet mit Editor dievölkergold.ini und markiert die gesamte Zeile mit "CDSearchPath"
5. Ersetzt die gesamte Zeile mit dem Text aus dem Zwischenspeicher und speichert die Datei so ab, schließt sie
6. Jetzt sollte die physische Version laufen ohne nach der CD zufragen

For owners of the Mission Pack or the Gold Edition, who got the GOG version for an easier use, there is a possibility to play the physical versions without a CD on Win10/11. So you don't have to rely on THQNordic refusing to release the Gold Edition or the MissionsPack and you only need the CD version for installation.
Attention! Changes are made to the game files on your own responsibility.
The GOG version doesn't seem to be really different from the physical version. The game is only promised by GOG that the CD is in the drive. Even then, the game didn't care which Alien Nations CD was in the drive. Whether it was the demo version from a magazine or any other official CD release. The game was always low maintenance in that respect. So what does it need?
a. the installed GOG version of Alien Nations
b. the installed physical version from JoWood (Die Völker Gold Edition or Alien Nations + Missions Pack)
What needs to be done?
1. search in the Windows folder (usually C:\Windows) for the following files (attention you need admin rights)
AlienNations_usa.ini/AlienNations_Fra.ini (doesn't matter which one) and dievölkergold.ini(I do not know how it is named in the int. versions)
2. alienNations_usa.ini/AlienNations_Fra.ini belong to the GOG installation. Open one of them and copy the whole "CDSearchPath=" line.
3. at the völkergold.ini you need admin write permissions in any case
3.a right click on the völkergold.ini and open the properties window
3.b go to the tab "Security" and click on "Edit...". button
3.c Give the entry "User (PCNAME\User)" the rights Modify and Write
3.d Then click on Apply
4. open with Notepad dievölkergold.ini and mark the whole line with "CDSearchPath"
5. replace the whole line with the text from the cache (it should like: CDSearchPath=FullInstallationPath to AlienNations\alien nations)
and save the file like this, close it
6. now the physical version should run without asking for the CD
