I Had noticed if there was 3 aliens on the screen at the same time as you that the game would get rather slow and 5 made it even worse, so I set out to try to smothen out the frame rate drops or cure them all together, which I was able to do and will share with you all here! now I can get 5 and 6 aliens as well as me on screen and it doesnt really feel like theres much of a hit at all!

Here is a video to show the change between GoG's Default config and my edited one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3Yd8uveZSI

Head over to your games installation folder located at:

(32 Bit OS)
C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Alien Breed Pack\Alien Breed

(64 Bit OS)
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Alien Breed Pack\Alien Breed

There you will find a file called "dosboxAB.conf" BACK THIS UP BEFORE CONTINUING! if you do not like the changes or edit this wrong.

now open the original file with Notepad

you may use "Edit" then" Find" to help find these locations and edit them to the same as what i mention here I will BOLD my changes

output=DDraw
memsize=32
core=dynamic
cycles=3500

This should give you a much smoother play experience than the default that GoG gives you. you may notice the game runs about 2% faster than it did normally but the drops in frame rate will not be at 30% slower and such as before !

This fix should work on the Tower Assault one as well edit "dosboxABTA.conf" inside its folder as well!

Let me know here in the thread if this was of use to you all!

Just wondering what system specs you have on the machine you are using to play as this will affect how smooth DOSBox handles the game, so these settings you've put are applicable to your setup and probably anyone with similar setups, but we don't know what your setup is.
Hi, I've tried to edit this file but I keep getting an 'access denied' error message when I try to overwrite it. I'm running windows 7 32-bit, I have only just noticed that windows 7 is preventing me disabling the read only option on all folders, even though I have full administrator rights. So I presume this is the problem. I never had this problem when I was running XP. Does anyone know of a solution?

EDIT: Found out that it was not the read only setting but one of the user security properties I had to change.

Thank you for these settings, it runs a lot smoother now!

I found that by using these settings in both Alien Breeds and Tower Assault's cfg files I made the games run perfect.
Tower Assault in particular was running very bad for me now it runs perfectly.

output=DDraw
memsize=32
core=dynamic
cycles=auto

For tower Assault the cycles=auto is what makes the difference. I tried 3500 with it and it ran just as bad but auto is perfect.
