Male characters use the female-symbol in the character-screen, while female characters use a garbled letter. I've only tried the German version, so I don't know if this is also the case with the English and French ones too. I've attached some screenshots from my original copy of the game and the GOG version for comparisons.

Edit: I've just tested the English version and it's happening there too.

the german patch 1.38 is flawed.

The intended changes that fix stuff in the english and french versions (e.g. messy gendersymbols for females, missing items in the first city) are not fixed in the german version. And in the linked post someone explained how german patch 1.38 could be changed so that the german version would benefit from the same fixes as the other language versions.

Could GOG fix the bugs in the german patch 1.38 that cause the issues that are solved in the other language versions?
