Just grabbed American Nightmare to start my Alan Wake collection. Installation was fine and the opening video is fine, but as soon as the game actually starts there is nothing but a white background! The character renders OK and moves, etc., but there is a solid white background. I thought it was the Nvidia card so I also tried the integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 card, but this also presents an all white background. I googled around some and saw others had this issue back in 2013 and updating the intel driver fixed that. Not so for me. I've also tried the Nvidia driver update but this also failed to correct the issue.

Also, the menus are messed up where there are only grays and white blocks where the text would be.

Needless to say, the game is completely unplayable for me. Anyone see this and have a possible solution?

Problems like this which are unrelated to video drivers are often due to missing dependencies. I recall someone was having problems with the first Alan Wake game a while ago and I suggested they install extra libraries, which solved the issues. So, I'll suggest that again:

Install these:
directx9c
dotNet 3.5 (and also 4 and 4.5)
Visual C 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2013

All of those are available from Microsoft. I prefer the redistributable packages.

I'm not sure which one solved the issue for the other guy. I have all of them installed.
