Okay, maybe it's just me, or maybe there's a problem. I just started to game and played what? 15 minutes max, but I have the feeling, when I put the camera behind the character, that he is always leaning left.

I mean, pressing only the up key and not evening touch the mouse, the character DOES tend to go on the left, so I have to "manually compensate" to make him go straightforward. It can be misleading, for example at the beginning of the game when you learn how to jump.

What do you think could be the origin of this problem? Is this a problem at all? I must add that I've checked, I have no controller plugged at the same time, so I don't think it comes from that...

You aren't the only one who feels the controls are a bit off. I've got the 360 version also and it played easy for me, but this is way off. I noticed he had a drunk lean to the left when walking with WASD/mouse and it felt hard to control. I searched about it and on the remedy forums, a lot of people are complaining about the over the shoulder view and that it's the flashlight that is the guide, not Alan. They say you can TAB it to the right shoulder, but there is no center view.

They say it's just best to use a controller, but after that, I haven't found a cure for the keyboard & mouse users unless there is a patch floating around. I will update if I find a 'remedy' for this awkward view!

Here's the answer if you wish to have a free camera mode: http://n4g.com/news/970212/remedy-explains-why-the-free-camera-mode-in-alan-wake-pc-requires-a-gamepad

Thanks for your answer. The game being a console port, I feared the technical answer would be "just use a controller, goddammit!". I hate when a game forces me on the choice of my control scheme, especially if in addition they force me to use an xBox controller clone to play... on PC (Darksiders, anyone?)

I somewhat agree, but sometimes mechanics dictate that a different input method is superior for the type of game being presented. I think every dedicated PC gamer should get themselves a gamepad, but that's just my opinion. I still remember the days of Mechwarrior 2 and flight sims, where PC gamers never batted an eyelash at games that pretty much required peripherals like joysticks in order to play properly.

Oh, but I do agree that some kind of games are better with a controller than with the keyboard/mouse! That's not the problem. The problem is when I'm forced to use ONE brand of controller.

For example I have a wireless Logitech Rumble Pad 2, of which I'm very satisfied, but I can't use it with Darksiders for example because programmers decided that Microsoft's xbox controller was far enough for us PC players. And that's unacceptable, to me.

You can use this to emulate a xbox controller, i'm using it to play Alan Wake with a Wingman Cordless RumblePad

Yes, I know x360ce, I use it already ^_^ but for some games (like Darksiders) I've never been able to make it work.

Ah, gotcha ;)

Don't know about Darksiders but with Alan Wake using the GUI i couldn't get it to work either, it seems the GUI sometimes messes up the settings on save and even when starting it up. Manually editing the .ini without using the GUI worked though.

Just wanted to add: in the options you can enable and disable "direct aiming". Enabling it results in a more solid connection between the camera and the the flashlight. May somewhat reduce the effect you're talking about.

But yeah, the movement is always a bit weird but not necessarily bad. I started playing with mouse and keyboard but ultimately switched to an Xbox controller. It just feels better in case of this game, especially in combination with disabled direct aiming (the "liquid" character and camera behaviour adds a lot to the atmosphere, imho).
I am just posting here for using a game pad with Alan Wake or AWAN, you can use the software emulation of the( for example ) logitech rumble pad 2 to copy the keyboard in the commands for each button on the pad.
