I have just installed Alan Wake on my computer. However, performance is sluggish and slow. Putting settings on Low does improve things a little but still not usable. I can play more demanding games such as Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 absolutely fine and those are even running in 1080p and High settings. I think this is more of a software issue. Here are my specs:

i7 920 2.6Ghz Quad Core
6 gb ram
1gb 5670 GPU

Any ideas about my slow performance running this game? Again, I can run much more demanding games smoothly so dont see why this game should be any different?

Thanks

Your GPU is too slow.
For Alan Wake (High settings and 1080p) you will need a gtx 460 or a hd 6850 at least.
It's a pretty demanding game...
Do you have forced anti-aliasing in your graphics driver setup? If so that seriously slows it down. I had the same problem on my system (i7 980-X, 24 GB of RAM and Radeon 5870). I turned off forced AA, and now it runs smoothly... and with AA I might add.

So start Catalyst Control Center, enter the Gaming, choose 3D application settings and put a checkmark in Use application settings in the Smoothvision HD box. Doing the same for anisotropic filtering wasn't necessary for me but doesn't hurt. Both things can be setup in the game.

It's could be the 5670. Lower details and try again. Check your drivers too, 12.4 seems to have problems with this game

Thank you, just switch off AA and its now running super smooth on the highest settings @ 1080p!

People keep saying that the graphics card is poor and indeed it is by todays standards. But the 5670 has surprised me in what it can achieve. Again, I use the same graphics card to run Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 on high settings @ 1080p and they run perfectly.

Perfectly is subjective, I look for 45-60 FPS minimum at my native res plus high+ detail settings for any game I play which is modern. To me that is 'perfect'.

You are getting 30+ FPS at 1080P, but for me, that would be unacceptable and not perfect.

Different strokes for different folks. ;)
