I am trying to launch Alan Wake's American Nightmare on Windows 11. I keep getting the same string of error prompts though: "cannot execute because cannot find msvcr100.dll" and "cannot execute because cannot find msvcp100.dll"

I've crawled all over the internet trying to rectify this. I've reinstalled American Nightmare multiple times, downloaded all kinds of Windows, Virtual Studio, C++ and other updates. I've downloaded mscvr100.dll and msvcp100.dll but cannot find really clear instructions for what to do with those files ("Put them in the program's directory" well great, there are about 10 folders; can you narrow it down?)

Over two months I've submitted two different tickets to Gog, plus system reports and received ZERO reply from them even after multiple additional prompts.

Anyone have any ideas?

(Edit: Oh and be aware: This seems to affect JUST Alan Wake's American Nightmare. I tried running just the original game (Alan Wake) and it runs just fine).

If a guide says "Put them in the program's directory", either the base directory is meant or the directory with the executable, if the executable is not in the base directory.

But don't download the dlls, but download the installer from microsoft and install it.
I had the same issue on Windows 11.

The following steps solved it:

1. Go to the MS Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package Download site
www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999

2. Click Download and select the vcredist_x86.exe package
Important: select the x86 version, the x64 version did not solve the issue for me!

3. Install the downloaded package

4. Go to the folder where Alan Wake's American Nightmare is installed
Right click "alan_wakes_american_nightmare.exe" and select Properties

5. Under "compatibility mode" select "Windows 7"

Then I could launch the game with Gog without problems.
