I click the shortcut and it tells me multi-sample antialiasing not supported by my graphics hardware. I downloaded the directx included with the game. running windows 7.

Asked support. They asked if I could start the game despite the message.

Seems that if I could I wouldn't be asking for help in the first place.

PLEASE help you guys.

What graphics hardware do you have?
If you're running Intel HD integrated graphics (like on a laptop) then I'm afraid I don't have any good news for you. Alan Wake does NOT support Intel graphics. The fault is the Multi-sample anti-aliasing, which Intel HD graphics do not do.

The developers said that they are looking into it, but not to expect a fix any time soon.

A warning on the game's page here on GOG would be nice so people with Intel graphics can steer clear of this one.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm in the same boat as OP. :\ I'm going to contact GoG about adding a disclaimer to the game page, because if I'd known this I'd of picked a different game in the pick 5 sale!
Just tried it on my Intel HD Graphics 4000 and it works fine although it runs at 15 - 18 fps. Unless my nvidia card switched on, even though I disabled it which is unlikely because I get more fps with it switched on. Maybe its a Intel HD 3000 problem or something?

I'm currently in the same boat, here. I've also got an Intel HD graphics chip (integrated), and the same error message pops up. ...Incidentally, having to keep upgrading my hardware when I can't usually afford to do so is one of the reasons why I gave up on the mainstream games industry in the first place. Here it is, you could have a good computer that was built several months ago, and then some new mainstream game comes out, and if your video card happens to be a base-line card (which is oftentimes true in my case), it won't run. Doesn't the mainstream games industry understand that there are some of us who can't afford to keep upgrading our computers every six months, when some "hot new tech" comes out? (Sorry, I'm just irritated. It's like what I experienced with SimCity 4, Doom 3, Warcraft 3, and Bioshock - all over again. At least I got this and American Nightmare on sale, in that A.Wake bundle.)
