As the title says. Out of sudden the game price changed from 39.99 USD to 54.99 USD (which equals to 39.99 EUR, the same price everyone else has). Most funny thing is that the browser tab still tells me "Age of Wnder 3 for download $39.99".
Sorry guys, one of the best things on gog was the price. It has usually been lower then elswhere. But now you are increasing prices just a few days after release...

I have no idea what happened here.
Best bet would be to contact GoG support over this, seems to me like it's unintended.
Ha! Suffer our EU rip-off prices! :P
Seriously though, I suspect it's because ... well, actually, what's the price on steam?

Well 39.99 EUR. It has crossed my mind that they wanted to make the price match Steam. Which is completely wrong imho. As I said it was one of those advantages gog had over Steam. 39.99 USD is much less than 39.99 EUR.
I just checked, the price is the same as it was.
Well not for me (and all other Europeans I bet). Even the browser agrees with me. See the description at the top, 39.99 USD and check the price, 39.99 EUR. As I said, if this is the new gog policy, then I am really worried.

It was never $40 for me, odd. Was always the same as Steam, and I got the difference to dollars refunded in store vouchers.

It always was this much in the Czech Republic (and most of continental Europe). If it showed different price to you before then it incorrectly located you and was only fixed.
Maybe you missed it but they introduced reginal pricing about month ago, when this game was announced. There was big fuss around it, peopel complained a lot and they remedied it by giving you codes to balance the price.
The browser tab shows you the other price only because it is stupid, there is no other explanation. It is done to mock people with higher price.
