Loved this game and played it for around 15 hours until I ran into my first few armies of Trebuchets with Apprentice support magic units. I thought they would be easily destroyed by my balanced army of heroes, infantry, cavalry, archers, and my own apprentice mages, but NOPE, for some idiotic reason, Trebs can not only move and fire every turn, they can disengage from close combat and fire point-blank at you with perfect accuracy!

All this while the Apprentice's hurl absurdly overpowered magic ranged attacks at you every round. Needless to say, my main 2 armies of leveled-up heroes and veteran soldiers was easily destroyed by nothing but trebuchets and a few magic support ranged units. I guess that's the dominant unit in the game and I'll do nothing now but build armies of trebuchets and magic support!

Why was something so obnoxiously broken put in this otherwise great game? I don't even want to play given how stupid all of it feels now. Maybe I'll try and find a mod that fixes this because I'm frankly pretty disappointed that the game took this embarrassing turn.
Are you sure you're talking about the right game? Perhaps someone will correct me if I'm wrong... but I'm pretty sure there are no trebuchets or apprentice mages in this game. I've played this game for a long time, and I've never seen units like that.

He is talking about Age of Wonders 3. I know it is rarely discussed on this forum. He posted the exact same thing on the Steam forum where he was given some helpful advice. Mostly that archers are weak against seige engines and cavalry should be used.
