I remember this map! I played as Merlin and did quite well until someone disappeared...

Count me in. Randomly assign me a Wizard other than Merlin please. No preference at all.
I'll take any wizard as well.

Yeah, we were allied and doing very well.

Anyway, I am in, I guess.
But I want something else than Ke-nan. I played him last time and am playing nomads in Marlene.
No dwarves either.
So Elves, Tigrans or Orcs.
Hmmm, I don't really care there.
I have a mild preference for Tigrans. What's the etiquette for Domination and Resurrection?

Tigran Dominate can be crazy overpowered as evidenced in our Marlene map, but the etiquette rules seem to let that one go. (Encourages the use of willpower providing spells like Champion and Fury.)

Resurrection ability is usually limited to weak units (Gold medal Cardinals and some wimpy Archon unit), so it's less of an issue. The one rule that applies to it is an "optional" rule, but we've followed it in the past. Naturally, it was me that abused it once and had to issue a bunch of mea culpas. (I resurrected an enemy unit in auto-combat and then used that unit to scout ahead before disbanding it later in the turn.) It is definitely needed as an optional rule to prevent the resurrecting of very strong area guards like Chaos Lords and Dragons. I definitely used that ability in the 1vs1 map we played where it was encouraged by the mapmaker.


OR-6: Restrict the use of the Resurrection ability to your own units.

If, for any reason, an enemy unit is resurrected during TC (Tactical Combat) or FC (Fast combat) battle, such unit can be used, but should be disbanded after the battle ends.

Perhaps it's an unwelcome arrogance to suggest alternate maps, but what about the 'Nordic Star' Map?

It is only 6 players instead of 8, and may therefore be better suited to our situation with only 5 players.
I have nothing against changing of map (nor against not changing) but I think for 5 players it is actually worse to have 1 AI player than 3. It allows 1 human player to kill him and gain advantage over others.

Agreed. With three AI, there is an opportunity for three humans to double their base size quickly and gain an advantage. That will encourage some good, early game risk taking.
OK. I will set it up because I do not expect others to join. I will give Vitek Orcs!

Merlin, Day 1

We move around and capture some income structures. No fighting yet - we do not feel strong enough and it has been a while since we last fought a battle. Things are looking good though. No nearby enemies in sight. Clicked End turn and remembered too late that I should have checked the Research Spell section. Seems like I am a bit rusty....
