I'm playing through the second tutorial mission, and I'm supposed to use a boat to get troops across to assault the orcs. Problem is, I can't figure out how to use the boat. When I hover the mouse over it with some troops selected, it shows the combat cursor, but I can't actually initiate combat. I can't move onto the hex that the boat is on (it's in the water). I can't move the boat since it is owned by "independent".

Basically the boat is just sitting there and I can't interact with it in any way. Any ideas?

Ok I found the hidden town and it triggered the tutorial messages, but I can't unload the boat when it tells me to. I think it is bugged somehow, it won't let me continue and I have to quit the game.

Maybe you forgot to deselect the boat? Click on the boat to separate it from the party, and then click on any land square to disembark the troops.

If you feel like giving the game another chance, maybe you'll like to know that in the regular campaigns boats aren't used much, and with spells such as Water Walking, Levitate, Freeze Water or Raise Ground you can avoid them entirely. :)

Yeah I did deselect the boat, but they just refused to disembark. I had already explored the top region and hired a hero from the inn so that might have messed up the scripts somehow.

I'm not rage quitting because of that though, just doesn't seem like my kind of game. Thought it was worth a shot when I got it cheap on sale a while ago, so no big loss.

Resurrecting this - I'm a veteran player of AoW 1, 2 and 3.

I have the same issue, the units can't disembark onto dry land despite deselecting the boat.

My best guess is that its a scripting issue - had a similiar problem earlier in the same mission where the tutorial script was stuck. Approaching from a different angle worked. Haven't found a workaround for this issue, so the tutorial campaign is probably impossible to complete.

No big loss for me either. I can strongly recommend AoW 1 and 3 for newbies - non-functioning tutorial means that Shadow Magic is not recommended.

I just tried it myself and I didn't have a problem disembarking. I was able to clear the rest of the mission without any issues as well.

I'm not sure what happened to either you or the previous OP.
