Now from all I heard AoW3 will come with a good editor and they also plan on making it better after launch. However they also said they are looking into making the game support steam workshops. Now I am not deadset on having a tons of mods on my game but I every now and again I do get some and also like the possibilty to get extra levels and maps from the editor. But I seen it many times sofar that as soon as there is steam workshop support in a game than thats where all the modders seem to be shifting to cause it just seems easier for them to integrate their mods and maps into the game. Also I would hate to have to buy the game again on steam a couple of month in cause everyone will be using the steam integration for the multiplayer games. So I am really torn between getting it here or on steam. I would love to get it on GOG for various reasons (better pricing policy and just general better communtiy support overall). So thats why I ask the experts. Do you think that the AoW3 modding communtiy will shift to workshop olny once that support is in or will they continue supporting the editor and those that have a non steam version? Same question goes for multiplayer.
Hey, we've got 15 years of people making maps and sharing it on the Age of Wonders Heaven website. Just cause Steam is popular nowadays, doesn't mean people will upload only to steam. Besides, if I were to make a map, I'd want to reach as many people as I can so I'd upload them everywhere. However I do not use Steam. Also, since I don't use Steam, I don't think you need Steam to make mods. Sure, the mods may be listed smoothly and easier to reach, but a mod does what a mod does and I'm sure outside of Steam you just download and extract it to the designated folder and/or copy over some files. It's always been like that and I don't expect that to change. Also, we can make a designated topic here on GOG as well to link to mods and maps people have created. It's that simple.

First of thanks a lot for that detailed answer. Its nice to know that the AoW modding community seems to be so dedicated. The thing is so that for the old AoW games steam never really was a factor to begin with as they have been released on Steam ages after their initial release. So the modding community never really had to make a decision between Steam and non Steam mod support. This time around so AoW will be released right from the start on steam. Granted there will not be any workshop support from the start and from what I did figure sofar it seems that if it would happen it would not happen very fast.

Do not get me wrong. I have nothing against Steam nor GOG. I have a nice library on both systems. And to be fully honest during the last couple of month I been going more and more torwards GOG whenever a new game was released round about the same time for both stores. I just think that GOG, while not having some of the qualtity of life features that Steam has to offer, is the more customer friendly one weather it be support, pricing or community (well that plus I am an old gamer so yeah go figure). I just wanna make sure that I make the right decision for me thats all.
