looking to find anyone interested in a play by email game on a slightly more relaxed map. just got killed by independents in turn 7 of my first pbem game...
Yeah okay, maybe we can do a group game against the computer on a randomly generated map - who would be up for that?
Eh, although I am doing good so far I agree that the map is not exactly ideal when most of us is not experienced players and the map was really swarming with enemies. Maybe playing some pre-made map as users making maps are often hardcore players and create hardcore maps?
Count me in for any number of games. I actually recruited one of my local friends, he bought AoW:SM and we've played three games over the last week.

Just go to AoW Heavens and scan the downloadable maps (Link). We searched for maps with 2 players, more Wizards than players, and co-op vs. AI. So far we're having mixed results in war, but loving the battles and wasting a ton of time in After Action Reports. My productivity at work has taken a serious decline.

My email for AoW is on the first page of the Gates campaign in which we're getting our butts handed to us. Technically we don't need Dave to get the ball rolling, so if you two want, I'll pick a newbie friendly map for the three of us. (I'm definitely a noob since I'm in week 3 of learning this game!)

Edit: Dave - Question for you. I've searched AoW:Heaven and can't figure out the answer... I'm playing The Breach which had an .ahm and a .bak file. We put the .ahm in our custom scenario folder but ignored the .bak file. Problem is: the wrapper absolutely can't see the games being sent. It can send, but not receive. I know the fix will be simple, but I'm stuck.

Most common mistake there is that people don't realise the emails have to be unread and in your Inbox, you're using Gmail right? Just mark the emails as unread and do a poll now. What a lot of people do is see the email come in - click it - that marks it as read and then they wonder why the Wrapper ignores it. This is actually by design as it gives the most control to the user and it is mentioned several times in the manual and getting started guide =)

Thanks for the reply Dave - Yeah, our first attempted solution was the read/unread aspect of the IMAP email system. No luck. We're playing two games at the same time, so when one is pulled by the wrapper, we know to manually download the second game. No big deal.

Incan and Vitek - You two up for a game where we can get some confidence and experience?
Well I am so far doing quite good in Gates of Elocin but I have no problem in trying this one to learn more as there is a lot I need to learn.

I still don't quite understand the problem then. Sometimes it can download the games and sometimes not? If it can download games at all then you know it's working properly. Say you have 3 unread emails each with a game attachment, when the Wrapper checks for email automatically (or when you force it to check by right-click Poll Now) it will download all unread game emails that it finds. It then marks them as read in your inbox so that the next time it checks, they're not downloaded again. Also if you play with a manual user who sometimes sends two or more game files attached to one email, the Wrapper deals with that correctly too. So I am not sure what you're problem is. Just check the activity log to make sure the games are coming up. You always have the control of marking an email as unread and doing a poll now to re-download it.

Nor do my friend and I. We're both tech guys, so we're doubly appreciative of the seamless integration of the wrapper and reading manuals when we're stuck ;)

Funny part is that the wrapper recognizes the unread email, marks it as read, but does not download the .asg file. It sends as it should though... (My pet theory is that titling the game with a colon included messes up the recognition system. Older systems don't like non-alphanumerics.)

I'll jump in on your random map game. But I'll also start a separate game for Vitek, Incan and myself just to show others that someone besides Dave can start a game! Of course, I'll be 'cutting and pasting' your 48 hour notice warnings as well.

Ah interesting, you might have found a bug there. Can you email the game file to me so I can run it through my dev environment to see what goes on in the code?
