Been hoping to sign up to some PBEM with people here, for aowsm patch 1.4.

Been trying to get the email wrapper working, it works in that I've managed to start a 2 player game with myself and its emailing the turns to me properly so I can play as both wizards (the email wrapper instructions suggest that to test it).

So I don't its the wrapper that is the issue. But for some reason, most of the time when I do manual combat, when the battle ends the game sort of crashes/freezes, it never quite leaves the battle properly, whether I win, lose, surrender, or auto it. So my game is stuck and I have to close it with task manager and try again. Doesn't seem to be an issue with fast combat. Is this a problem anyone has come across before?

Never heard of that issue before.All I can suggest is installing the Showscene crash fix - https://github.com/int19h/aow-patch/files/999989/AoW_MapViewer.ShowScene_patch.zip

And maybe reinstalling the game /verifying the installation using gog galaxy if it has that function.

Also setting the .exe to run in comptibility mode and run as administrator.

I've finally managed to get PBEM working and have started playing against my brother, he has the same problems I do, even though he's in a different town, on a different laptop/internet etc. So really confused about how its affecting both of us?

So we can play successfully on shadow magic, but only if we select fast combat for every battle. If we do a manual battle OR if we accept a surrender, it goes to a screen which looks like a fast battle screen, but with no troops, and no buttons work, so you get stuck and have to close the program using task manager. We don't have a GOG version (we both had CD version years ago, but when we got laptops without CD slots, someone gave us a downloaded version that we still use).

On single player everything works fine, and PBEM works fine apart from manual combat/surrender option.

I tried running as admin, I wasn't sure what you meant about compatibility mode though? Also, I could try that patch you sent, but is it meant for shadow magic?

Oh right, yeah that patch is for the first game, aow1.

I really am stumped that you're be running into issues with combats not working - in PBEM only. I'd never have expected that to be an issue.

I did find this old thread; maybe you're having a graphics related issue? Also compatibility mode is something you can find when you go to the .exe file in Windows Explorer and right-click it, then go to Properties.
