I use to play AOW1 a long time ago and was super happy to see it on GOG and of course instantly bought it. Well I finished the campain and wanted to just screw around and have fun. BUT !!!! the map editor doesnt work for campain maps !?!? i know for a fact my old CD worked for map editing Campain Maps ..... so what up ??? or am I just not going to be able to turn up the fun ?

Was it the Masters Compilation you had ? If so maybe this explains it.

Reading form that thread i posted a link to it seems it isn't not working because it isn't supposed to work. From that thread i gather that the map editor only works on campaign maps in the AoW version that came with the Masters Collection. The link i posted to aow.heavengames on my other post goes to a thread where there's a download link to a file that apparently enables the required stuff to make the the map editor of any AoW version work with campaign maps. Don't know if it works or not, i haven't tried myself.

I don't know if you managed to follow the link i posted on the other post since i tried it just now and the page doesn't open, maybe their forums are down for maintenance or something.

AoW1 from Impulse also does not allow to dit campaign maps. just checked.
