I've read on Steam that Age of Wonders 1 crashes a lot, and the GoG version is reportedly without those problems.

Never had a single crash. Finished all campaigns with all endings and played lots of PBEMs.

Played on both Windows 7 and Windows 10.

For best stability install the showscene error patch, then run it in Win98 compatiblity mode, and also Windowed mode if you like to Alt Tab. https://github.com/int19h/aow-patch
