There's something really special about Age of Wonders. Something about it's combination of art direction and mechanical design that captures the imagination. Something that keeps it ageless and compelling. That core "something" is that Age of Wonders is not afraid.
This game is about harnessing a free, multi-directional flow of unfairness. There are unfair levels in the campaign. Flat out unfair. And they give you ridiculously powerful tools to cope with them. Multiplayer is the same: it's a race to build the most unfair hero/army combination possible using traditional time-tested strategic gameplay. Age of Wonders is not fair in any way, shape, or form - and yet the proliferation of overpowered effects and ridiculous obstacles results in an incredibly fun and balanced game. Most games reign in powerful effects for the sake of game balance. Age of Wonders just lets you break game balance in so many ways that it comes full circle back to balanced, and becomes epic in the process.
This is fantasy, where larger-than-life heroes are the norm. Where epic spells and enchantments can alter the entire course of a war. Where insurmountable odds are overcome time and time again. This is Age of Wonders, a game that's not afraid to be awesome!
