I just installed Age of Wonders III. The install appeared to be successful, but I get the following error message when I try to run the game: "The program can't start because d3dx9_42.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit).
Rebooting doesn't help.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling AoW multiple times with the same result.
I've done some research online. One solution mentioned multiple times is to download and install the latest version of DirectX via the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer. Unfortunately, Microsoft has redirected all of the links to that I could find to a Windows 10 promotion page.
I've manually downloaded what I believe is the proper version of DirectX 11 for my PC (Windows6.1-KB2670838-x64) hoping to reinstall it, but running that program just tells me it's already installed on my computer; there's no "repair installation" option. I tried uninstalling DirectX so I could reinstall it, but it appears to be integrated into the OS.
Any suggestions?
