Hello all, i've never played any of the AoW series and read that AoW 2 TWT and AoW SM are the best.

I thought id try the Wizards Throne since it was released first of the two.

Are there any essential patches/mods before i play?

I have read lots about AoW SM mods just not a lot about TWT

Are you playing SP or MP?
For general purpose the 1.5 UOP is probably the safest bet as far as mods go.
I like the Wizards&Heroes mod since in improves the AI's chances (AI can now build cities and the cost of buffing spells are significantly increased, for example), myself.

TWT and SM are basically the same games, in that maps made for TWT can be played with SM. So TWT is really only worth it for the campaign. The AI is terrible (no ship AI at all).
