It looks like I don't have the latest version of Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. Also, when I launch it, the cursor is frozen, so I can't make any selections on the menu. I tried to run the game by disabling all but one processor via the processes tab in task manager. It doesn't work. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Re: Patch - See this thread and associated Link: Patch 1.4

Re: Graphics - Try using the config file within the Age of Wonders Program Folder and enabling or disabling Direct 3D. Also, try starting in full screen mode. If I recall, you might need to select English on first loading up. For some reason there is no single set way to get it to work, but if you play around with lots of selections it should finally perform as advertised. I've installed it on multiple Vista, 7, and 8 machines... (that I own!)

Thank you! I applied the patch with no problems.

Another question: I went into the game folder, but I wasn't able to locate a config file that would allow me to make any changes. The game only works in windowed mode, and I can't see well enough to enjoy it much. The text is too small. I never play games in windowed mode unless I'm playing something I can leave for a few minutes and do other things. My folder has at least two types of config files, but they're "read only" as far as I can tell.

BloomingLilac:
In the start menu folder for AoW, there is an executable config file. Pick your resolution and enable either full screen or resolution switches... I'm playing in 1920x1080 full screen and it definitely looks better than a 640x480 silly window. :)
Thanks again. I selected English (the language box was blank) and enabled Direct 3D. With the resolution at 1024x768, I can actually see the text. :-)

I'm not sure why, but this game causes major temp spikes, so I'm going to try setting its affinity to one or two processors and see if that helps. This game shouldn't need to use all cores anyway, right? I play Skyrim and other graphics intensive games without the lag and overheating.

I really appreciate the help. Happy gaming!
