NVidia RTX 4070, 530.41.03 drivers, Linux/Wine/Lutris. Crashing after some assertion failures:

There's a thread going on PDX forums about this as well; really at this point I'm just waiting for the hotfix to come to GOG.

EDIT: downloaded and installed the new GOG version (77988) this morning. No dice. Same assertions, same crash, same crash reporter crash so no minidumps to share either. *sigh*

EDIT 2: patched up to 78130 today. No dice, same everything. Set the configuration file to minimum settings and added the video card workaround described in the hotfix notes. Still no dice.

Maybe Triumph will fix the crash reporter so I can actually send them a minidump to analyze? I can dream... :D

According to protondb it should be working rather well, so I still believe us Winers are running into the same issue as quite a few other real Windows users have. Looking at the comments, going for Proton8 releases seems to have a higher chance of success. One user mentioned Proton8 (explicitly without GE) worked for him while with GE did not. However, several users seem to be using GE builds fine. Since I'm on Lutris I don't have ready access to non-GE Proton builds. I'm happy to hear reports of anyone who can add datapoints.

I had problems w/ an nvidia card too. But if you add the game to Steam as a non-steam game Proton can play it.

After futzing about with lutris and all manner of runners and vkd3d stuff, I added it to steam and it ran fine with proton 8.02. Thanks for the tip!
As someone who previously avoided Steam like the plague, what exactly does that mean? Install the normal Steam in a bottle (that does not seem to work well) or what exactly would I need to do?

Edit: crap, I need to install it in the system, for example via apt. /sigh, I would have preferred to isolate it well away...

Yes I think you will be best installing Steam from your distro's package manager. In Steam...

Goto Library and in the bottom left click [ADD A GAME] -> Add a non-steam game

Once the game is added to the library Right click -> Properties -> Compatibility:
Check "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool"
Select Proton 8.0-2 or Experimental

The core task I missed this morning for a frustrating half hour was "enabling the beta", otherwise you cannot enable "compatibility tools" (that is, Wine/Proton), for anything explicitly.

OK. I don't remember doing that to use SteamPlay.

The most recent patch now seems to work in Lutris with Lutris-GE-Proton8-8.
Bloody hell. It worked perfectly fine yesterday evening. Same problem as before now. I'm at a complete loss what should have changed though...
It now works without Steam. Mostly? After a fresh reboot, just starting Galaxy via Wine and then AoW4 through it, it has worked several times now. Once it launched once, it seems to launch during the whole session. If it fails during the first startup, no amount of trying again and re-configuring things seems to help.

How to deal with DLCs? Do you add the launcher to Steam? The game's .exe (in this case how does it detect the DLCs?)?
