Keep an eye out for sign up threads in this sub-forum. There are maybe half a dozen players here and currently about 3 games going on.

Alternatively, you could create a sign up thread yourself talking about what you want to play (FFA, 1v1, teams, w/e).

Head's up: SM is primarily a Play By EMail (PBEM) event. Not the fastest paced game, but still quite fun.

PM one of the regulars to solicit a one vs one "beginner" game to get some of the basics of a PBEM game under your belt and then jump right in. Once you've played any of the AoW or HoMM games, it's pretty darn easy to pick up a different one...
Due to the nature of PBEM, combat against other players is always auto-combat, not manual. Some people are disinterested in PBEM for that reason. I hope you'll give it a try though! Not sure if you've played AoW3 by hotseat, or PBEM.

On the plus side, PBEM allows you yo play a long game in 20-minute bursts over the course of weeks or months instead of having to sit in one place for 6 hours hoping no-one quits. And you can fight neutrals manually.

http://aow.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=1122 Here's the link where you can download the email wrapper utility program. I am happy to give you tips on how to install it and get it working.

Let us know when you've installed the wrapper, and tell us the email address you want to use for it, and we can include you in the next PBEM we start.
Always happy to have another player on board!
i have played both pbem and live multiplayer with aow3, but is there a fast way to contact each other? forum is a bit boring and slow to share and chat.

*shrug* Most of us have some amount of limited time and/or access, so the forum works very well as an asynchronous multi-person contact method. Especially since we've got a few people that are almost literally on opposite sides of the world.

1) Would you rather play AoW1 or AoW:SM? Wizard's Throne is possible, but SM has more than a few quality-of-life improvements.

2) What is your experience level with the relevant choice from #1? Did you want a small practice game first?

3) If you don't want a small practice game, then would you prefer a FFA or team game?

Humans versus AI, or Humans versus Humans (maybe with AI thrown in the mix)?

{Edit: Oh boop, email notification. Uhhhh...lemme look that up}
{Edit 2: This forum apparently does not have the functionality to send an email when someone posts on a topic. Sorry. If I see that someone has come up with a method to do so, I'll let you know.}

There is a checkbox on the right near the top and the bottom of the row of posts, in line with the "Pages: 1 2 ..." bit. Check that box to mark a topic as a favorite. When you go to the Community tab (click on it in the bar along the top of the page), you can see on the right the list of topics that you've marked as favorites. If a topic is displayed in a bright color, then it has new posts. If it is dark grey, then there are no new posts since the last time you opened the thread (or the OP of the topic is low rated; this is unlikely to be an issue for our turn log threads). You can also see the date of the latest post in the "Last update" column in the favorites list.

There are two user maintained tools that provide massive quality of life improvements for the GOG website:
Barefoot essentials
Adalia fundamentals

Install them. Love them.

Sign up thread is up: https://www.gog.com/forum/age_of_wonders_series/aowsm_sign_up_h_v_h_teams

This forum doesn't have the capacity to send an email when a thread is updated. I edited my previous post to say as much. Thankfully, the wrapper is a better resource for finding out when it is your turn, anyway.
