The game keeps on crashing randomly. I don't even get an error message, it just closes. Are there any patches for Windows 10?

Try all the usual stuff like compatibility mode, run as administrator, reduced colour 16-bit (restores some glow effects).

Open the Setup program and check the resolution setting - I recommend trying Windowed. Also check the Language setting here.

There's also this patch https://github.com/int19h/aow-patch/files/999989/AoW_MapViewer.ShowScene_patch.zip however the issue it fixes usually shows an error message.

Are you running a standard install of AoW? Is it steam/gog/retail? Have you been using the dev tool and forgot to switch back?

Yeah its standard, installed straight from gog.

Does the crash happen with an error message or does a black window flicker on screen and disappear?

If you look at the installer file, there should be a setting to skip the intro video. If you set it to skip, does the program still crash? Sometime DirectX crashes if your resolution is too high (test some of Southern's tricks too). Changing the screen resolution can sometimes help you get to the in-game menu to disable the intro video. Check if the map editor works proper. If yes, it's a video issue.
