Hi with the release of v1.7 the steam version will now included workshop support. How would I go about getting mods for the GOG version? Thanks to GOG being DRM free I know that technically I can mod any files that I wish but I am wondering what the process would be to add mods form other players. Is it passable for me to get a mod off Steam and use it with my GOG version?

Copying what I just posted in the patch thread:

Someone on the thread on the official forum asked the same and was linked to this site: http://steamworkshopdownloader.com/

Using it you can download files from the Steam Workshop, which you then should put in your [...]\Documents\My Games\AoW3\UserContent directory. Next time you boot the game, it should install the mods automatically from the downloaded archive.

Haven't tried it yet but I will over the weekend.
Thanks for the reply @Jason_the_Iquana. I too will try that when I see a mod I like on Steam.
Is this really going to be the only way to get mods on the GOG version? Seems very roundabout and inconvenient.
Well... for most people sending it to SteamWorks is the easiest way.... but maybe they will start uploading mods to other sites, like Nexus?

It's a bit of a pain, but I tested it and it works without a hitch. It's not much more hassle than downloading something from Nexus or some other site that often also needs accounts or something.

I did find out that you need to run the launcher before the game creates the archives and the mods start working. Using a direct short-cut (as I'm used to) doesn't work. But you only need to do that once.

On the plus side: I now have a neat re-skin that makes my mounted archers look like actual units from that race, instead of getting Elves with Mongolian hats, and another one that really improves how different hunters and shamans and such look. I'm looking forward to seeing what more ambitious projects will materialise in the time to come.
