This inquiry is for my brother-in-law who enjoys party based, linear, hack and slash games. He thoroughly enjoyed DS 2's graphics and game play and has been searching for like games.

I have read these forums (and others) as well as looked at game play footage but I'd like to hear from you guys who can lend personal insight. If this game at least falls into his gaming style I plan on purchasing it for him.

One other thing, is the ending a cliff hanger?

Thanks.

The gameplay is a bit more tactical than DS2, but still fairly similar in being a linear, party-based, real-time tactics dungeon romp. It has significantly less RPG elements than DS2 had (you won't be running into any towns to pick up quests in, or any side quests for that matter, etc), but this could either be a plus or minus depending on one's preferences. If he enjoyed DS2 primarily for the gameplay and not for the RPG elements then he should enjoy Aarklash.

And the ending is a cliff-hanger, although it a rather lazy "Well, things are just about all wrapped up... let's turn it into a cliff-hanger just for the heck of it" way.
