I rebind "use/interact" to middle mouse and I die with an "E" flashing in the middle of the screen.

For now I can temporarily change my middle mouse button to the keystroke E.

Please fix the keybinds so when I rebind any key every single action that uses that key changes.

Does that mean your binds failed, or the in game prompts are not changed.
Plus if you "Died", you are not technically in game.

Try editing the appropriate file in the Input Folder in the game, these tend to change the default setti8ngs.
The in game settings, are saved as a binary file, which is a real problem.

<Path To Game>\Input

Keyboard & Mouse
Keyboard_AZERTY_0.xml
Keyboard_QWERTY_0.xml
Keyboard_QWERTZ_0.xml
Mouse_0.xml

Controllers
Input_00_PC.xml = XBox?
Input_Dualsense_on_PC_00.xml = PS4/PS5?
Wireless_Controller_00.xml = Steam?

I never use controllers, so have none, and can't confirm the assumed devices.

Try editing these
They are the most likely settings going off your description, but be aware, your in game settings will override these default ones.

<Action ActionName="MENU_NG" Flag="2" ValueEvent="0">
<Primary>
<KEY Information="E">69</KEY>
</Primary>
</Action>

or maybe this

<Action ActionName="MENU_R1" Flag="2" ValueEvent="0">
<Primary>
<KEY Information="E">69</KEY>
</Primary>
</Action>

It may take a couple of tries, and the number codes are standaed Windows Decimal Key Codes, and is the keybind, though changing
<KEY Information="E">
may change button prompts (if you're lucky).

My binds did not fail. The prompt for middle mouse will show up for most things, picking up objects and opening doors. The very first fight scene in the pig pen you must hit a key to make her take the guys knife and stab him with it, the E prompt comes up even though nothing is bound to E. Actually, this is a common issue with PC games.

I'm using k/b+mouse. I've already tried editing those files with no luck.

I tried replacing "<KEY Information="E">69</KEY>" with "<KEY Information="MIDDLE_MOUSE">2</KEY>" in a few different spots but nothing changes in game.

I think the actual user inputs are stored in

"C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\55243620139303375\Storage\Shared\Files"

but I can't make sense of it when I open it with HxD

UPDATE 1: I started a new game and noticed that "hold key to skip cutscene" is still stuck on E as well.

UPDATE 2: I just figured out those xml files are only used when you reset the keybinds to default.

UPDATE 3: I deleted all the files in that folder except "Keyboard_QWERTY_0.xml" and "Mouse_0.xml".

Then I changed every <KEY Information="E">69</KEY> to <KEY Information="F">70</KEY>

and

changed <KEY Information="F">70</KEY> to <KEY Information="E">69</KEY>

I chose the F key because it was in the original file.

In game I can see all the swapped keyinds when I load defaults but while playing I still get the same "E" prompt on the screen for skipping cutscenes. I also noticed that E is used for menu right.

So this keybind is happening somplace else and I'm stuck changing my middle mouse button to keystroke E before I start the game and changing it back after, every single time :(

Please refrain from excessive swearing and creating duplicate threads for the same problem.

Clownski_: Please refrain from excessive swearing and creating duplicate threads for the same problem.
I must assume you are talking about a different post because there's no swearing in this one. I also didn't realize the word "damn" was considered excessive swearing. I will refrain from using that word going forward.

As for duplicate threads this one is about only a single key not rebinding properly.

The other post you removed was about totally "missing" keybinds.

Also removed was an accidental double post about the missing DLC due to an error on your website. Thanks. If you guys would add the option for the OP to delete thier own posts, we would take care of that ourselves.

PS The ability to change the Topic Subject would be nice too.

No fix but perhaps a workaround -> Use X-Mouse Button Control. I`ts a great program that helped me achive "binds" that could not be realized any other way ("hold down button to aim down sights" in Bioshock).

All the best

I can already rebind my mouse buttons to anything I want to but ......

the software native to my Microsoft Trackball Optical (See Pic), "Micosoft Intellipoint" no longer switches profiles automatically and none of the newer M$ software recognizes my device properly because they purposely removed support for it after they discontinued the hardware due to a desgin flaw. The 3 tiny bearings the ball rides on were metal and got flat spots on them after a year or so. I've replaced them with Silicon Nitride Ceramic ones and it works perfectly.

So, I'm going to check out this software you mentioned. If it will load game profiles for the mouse automatically, sweet! I sure do miss that. It hasn't worked since I upgraded from Win7 to Win10.

PS I found it here "https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/x_mouse_button_control.html". Don't go to one of those adware ridden file hosting sites.

The software is able to use profiles based on the apps you run.
The devs download site is: https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/xmousebuttoncontrol.htm
