Keith_I2: I finally did install the game along with the DLC of hardware stuff. I think the Rats cam be dealt with so maybe I'll give it a try.
It's no Soulslike, which is a good thing if methodical melee combat, with steep trial, & error learning curve to get timings.
I also don't consider them that hard just unforgiving of mistakes, but once learned boringly predictable, and I hate respawning mobs.
I like it when an area is repopulated, with new harder enemies, as a consequence of events, but same old mob respawned is just a chore.
In some ways, it's somewhat similar, but with trial, and error stealth, and the puzzle solving, is mostly, but not all negotiating paths to loot, especially upgrade tools, and materials for ammo.
There's even a couple of real head scratchers, that actually need to be ignored, until you find the key item that makes it possible.
Backtracking, and exploring the area fully, when you reach the end of level no return points, heavy doors, often needing companions help, or high legge jumps. those define the chapter parts you can reload from later. Just exploring, and finding the hidden gems is part of the fun for me, The available collectable sort of tell you something was missed, and you can replay a section, but that's a lose progress thing.
Rats are just an added environmental hazard, though that changes up a bit later on, they are always perfectly controllable, with fire, and food, and one other way in late game, and that late game change is the clunkiest part IMO. Like every game ever made, it's not perfect, but for a first attempt at being more than a work for hire small studio, it is impressive.
I'm much more forgiving of any jankiness a game may have, from small dev teams.
Just to be clear, I'm describing Innocence, not Requiem, and you should play that first. Not really got started on Requiem (2 chapters completed) yet, but that's not the game, just my health issues, release has come at a poor time for me.
