The registry key I changed was located at:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters\Insane
It's name: Control1
My unchanged values for turning with the left stick (axis U):
0000 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
0008 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 00
0010 FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 00
0018 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00
0020 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
0028 00 00 00 00 FF FF FF FF
0030 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
0038 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
0040 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
The first lines seem to hold the info for the steering and the info seems to be grouped in 32bit (4 hexadecimal pairs). Anyway on the line 0008 I changed the value 01 to 00:
0008 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
When I changed this value I could turn left and right with my left stick. If you change the left/right steering control in the game it will reset the value to 01.
What "steering issue" are you talking about? I run 1NSANE on Linux with a Windows wrapper (wine) so I don't have Windows and registry. In my case, my Joypad is supported but I can only steer to the left and not to the right with my right paddle. But it works with the left steering stick.

However, my "steering issue" is, that the game reacts to straight forward/backward/left/right but not the additon (forward + right/left). Is that also your "issue"?

Indeed that is the issue, have no idea how you could fix it in wine, though.

I recently bought 1NSANE and couldn't turn right with my Thrustmaster FGT 3n1 Wheel on my Vista 64 or XP machine. I used "regedit" to search for \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Codemasters\Insane. I could not find it on Vista 64, but found it on my XP Machine. I did as you said and changed the Control1 line 0008 03 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 to 0008 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00. It works! Now I can turn both left and right, and play the game with my wheel!

Thank you so much! I don't know how you figured that out, but you obviously know a hell of lot more about computers than I do. Thanks again!
I realize this was posted a long time ago. I was wondering if anybody would know how to make the right stick act properly as head camera movements. When I set those as the right stick now it automatically leans right, or left depending on which side I choose in the controls option.

I'm using an Xbox 360 gamepad.

On Windows 7 64 bit the location to change this is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Codemasters\Insane

Doing the same change to the Control1 registry entry located here works on 64 bit Windows.

That worked like a charm, thanks for finding the location zltippett.
Hello,

For me on Windows 7 64bit the registry location is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Codemasters\Insane.

Thanks for the solution!
The solution to fix the right stick camera was mostly the same, except instead of line 00000008, it was at line 00000078. Thanks!

I attached an easy cheat sheet to this post. I marked all the hex values that you need to change to 00. Solves all the axis problems!
