Themes:Action, Horror, Thriller, Warfare, Science fiction, Stealth, Survival
Game modes:Single player
Story:Metro 2033 is a first-person shooter with survival horror elements, based on the Russian book of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Most of the game takes place underground, but several times Artyom will have to venture outside, into the perpetual nuclear winter. Game progression is fairly linear, though areas may be explored more thoroughly for items and ammunition. Setpieces include a few on-rails sequences, missions that involve defending a location from an onslaught of monsters, and others. A few stages can be completed in a stealthy fashion.Show more

The original Metro 2033 was pulled from sale when the Redux version was released but as usual with this kind of thing it's not a clear cut improvement. Features from the sequel were backported, stealth mechanics were heavily changed, enemy placement and patrol routes changed, scripted sequences were altered, and so on. It's a very different experience. If the publisher still insists on not selling the original Metro 2033, I hope it could at least be added as a bonus with purchases of Metro 2033 Redux, as GOG has done for other games. People who want to experience original PC version of this game are currently forced to resort to dodgy resellers of old Steam keys, or piracy.
Redux version of the game has some controversial design changes. I would like to have an option to play the original version. After all, GoG is about preserving good old games.
Metro 2033 is a pretty cool game. It's a shame that the original from 2010 was delisted from steam so really your only options to play this is by either getting it on the xbox 360, a physical PC copy, or from buying a steam key as it's still in steam's database but even then buying steam keys can be sketchy and it's also not DRM free. If the original Metro 2033 comes to GOG then it would be a great way of preserving this game and hopefully they can fix the performance problems that it had. Even though there is the redux version this game is still pretty fun to play and it's a bit of a different experience than the redux.

For me, this helped defined not just how vital a unique atmosphere is to a story but the unique possibilities of telling stories within games. Sure, it's very much a child of Half-Life, but the human and spiritual implications of Metro run far deeper than Freeman's journey. There's a tale in each station, the way the social order is set up — the markets, the beggars, the families and the different facilities for housing, relaxing and even waste disposal. The character of Khan helps protagonist Artyom and the player to understand why different entities and people behave the way they do. Even the moralistic arc of the karma system encourages the player to try to engage with the world on a deeper level, asking them to consider the stakes and cost of life as they sneak or cut their way through bandits, ideologues and the mutants. Perhaps its implementation is flawed, but it is a system rewarding engagement with the world on a more considered, tactile basis. It helps flesh out 2033's setting not just as a shooting gallery and dungeon crawler but as world separate from ours that we've had the privilege of being granted temporary access to. With the original Metro 2033 currently unlisted, a pretty important cult hit is now largely unavailable in its original form. Making this available would also help contrast against 2033 Redux and Last Light, enlightening players as to what was arguably improved and what was left behind as the series surged forward. The original 2033 is a rough gem and, despite carrying some of the developer's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. DNA, still stands tall and stalwart amongst its peers.

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition
Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year EditionUnreal Tournament is a first-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes. The second installment in the Unreal series, it was first published by GT Interactive in 1999 for Microsoft Windows, and later released on the PlayStation 2 by Infogrames, and on the Dreamcast by Secret Level. Players compete in a series of matches of various types, with the general aim of out-killing opponents. The PC version supports multiplayer online or over a local area network. Free expansion packs were released, some of which were bundled with a 2000 re-release: Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition. The game is based on the same technology that powered Unreal, but the design of Unreal Tournament shifted the series' focus to competitive multiplayer action. Development took 18 months, and the game was initially intended to be an expansion for Unreal. Unreal Tournament received critical acclaim, with reviewers praising the graphics, artificial intelligence and gameplay, although the console ports were noted for having limitations. The game won several awards, and remakes have been attempted by fans. The series has continued with the releases of sequels Unreal Tournament 2003 in 2002, Unreal Tournament 2004 in 2004, and Unreal Tournament 3 in 2007.

Unreal Tournament 2003
Unreal Tournament 2003In 2291, consensual murder is legalized, opening the way for a previously underground event. Smaller mining companies have been running smaller matches to channel aggression, but now the Liandri Mining Corporation established a professional league, which quickly proves to be an extremely lucrative way of public entertainment. Liandri entered into the Tournament, as it is officially called, sponsoring their own team, the Corrupt. The Corrupt's leader, Xan Kriegor, quickly achieved champion status and held it for two years. In 2293, a human named Malcolm dethroned him and became champion himself. A huge media figure, Malcolm is hailed as the biggest star in human history and is worshipped as a god. His success nets great rewards for his sponsoring corporation, attracting the attention of jealous rivals both in the arenas of the Tournament and in the corridors of power a galaxy away. Liandri attempted to win back the champion title with Xan MK2 but failed (unknown to the other contestants, each member of the Corrupt is purely robotic, including Xan). Now it is 2302. The Tournament is undergoing a massive overhaul. The aging Sniper Rifle (a relic of centuries past) is removed from the Tournament as is "Assault" - a team-based event that forms a part of the competition. Many fans of the Tournament complain at these changes, with some combatants refusing to participate in the new format. Malcolm, shortly after his victory, hired two of his former opponents (Brock and Lauren, members of the former Iron Guard team) as teammates in his reformed Thunder Crash team. But the Axon Research Corporation, another of the four great corporations, entered the Tournament as well, sponsoring the geneboosted Juggernaut team, led by the brutal and savage Gorge.
