It might not up to snuff with the first two games, but it is still a really good game. The presentation is excellent, the music by series mainstay Noriyuki Iwadare continues to impress, and the combat reaches a good balance in difficulty while still adding new elements that I think really do enhance the experience.
The aching point is the story and characters. While not terrible by any means, you can definitely tell the devs had to wrap things up with what time and budget they had left. So by about a quarter through the game, the story switches to an entirely different plotline that doesn't really add to the overall theme. But even if the characters are drier and less interesting than the first two games, they're still fun and memorable.
Grandia 3 is one of the last great JRPGs of the 6th Generation (the BEST generation of games). Yet aside from a quiet port to PSN on the PS3, this game has never been re-released. A remaster collection between it and Grandia Xtreme would be ideal. It deserves more love. <3
