lugum: already read on other forums that it wont work, but i have tried it but indeed it doesn't work.
also it would slow down the whole game, while only the screen moves too fast when you point the cursor left or right.
thanks anyway.
as zork nemesis has the same problem on even windows xp machines it must be very badly programmed . but also gog should have tested things a bit better..

jpinsa: Hi again, what do you mean by "it would slow down the whole game"? I played it today with CPUKILLER on a Pentium 4, XP Home Edition and it worked fine.
hi

well if you reduce the cpu it will slow down your whole pc or atleast the whole game wouldnt it. since it's only a small section of the game that goes too fast and not the whole
game it wouldnt seem logical because then other things that shouldnt be slower will be low too.
also i got a quad processor 2x 2.50 ghz, 4gb ram and windows 7 which might even make
it more faster then a pentium 4 would.
also if you alt tab and go back does it still have the same speed or does it go faster?

running zpeed instead of zgiwin does make the speed go at a fine pace too and i guess not using alt+tab isn't that much of a deal... but i dunno if the speed will remain steady.
or that it will go faster still in the long run.

think only gog can give an answer about how and what they did and used (especially
zpeed) and if there is a solution.

Mmm... This is a rather interesting dilemma, I don't think the CPU KILLER would affect movies and animations within the game, those are set speeds and won't be affected by the CPU, I am not a hardware buff, would be interesting to get some views on it from GOGGERS who know about this. Until then I suppose we're stuck waiting for support. Best of luck.

thx,
would be interesting to hear from others, i wonder if many others have the same problem of there is just a happy few or they are just satisfied with the keyboard movement.
then again noone said anything about the missing 4th soundtrack of normality either, and i had to tell support (2 weeks after it got released) on which they fixed it.
I have consistently had issues with the GOG install, after several tries. I’ve noticed:

1. The big Infocom logo cannot be seen, but its sound effect can be heard, when starting the game.
2. I can get to the GUI (with the lantern in the background, and the listed options), but the cursor freezes in the middle of this screen.
3. I can nonetheless move the (invisible) cursor to the top to get the options like “Prefs”. I can also move it (invisibly) down to “start new game”. Then, however:
4. The whole “Propaganda on the March” can be heard playing in the background, but cannot be seen.
5. When the game starts after this, panning movement is insanely, impractically fast.

Several installs, done in admin mode, and starting the game several times, in admin mode, and the same results. Disappointingly, I have seen less disappointment with the various bit-torrented versions of the game. I’m running Windows 7-Ultimate-64, and have not noticed this issue with another other GOG downloads.

Hope we can get some solution for this soon.

I should also mention, the text on the death screen appears far too quickly. Since you can't scroll up, if the text is longer than a page, end up being unable to read a good amount of it (unless you can read at around 150 words per second).

Methinks this release was somewhat premature to be honest.

I've been having the samething happen to my game. It's frustrating...
edit....found out it was a battery level thing on my laptop...changed it to high performance

I agree with Hesusio; I'm a little surprised that this did not come up in QA testing....
Am I the only one that tried Compatibility mode? I'm running windows 7 64 bit, and, by using compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3, I was able to completely eliminate the fast scrolling. The only problem I have now is invisible edges; I can't access the inventory or spell banners. Still, the game is playable and I didn't have to download any extra software to do so. You may want to give that a shot.

I did that and got the opposite effect. I could access the spell and item banners but the panning was still stupidly fast. I managed to play it like that without too much hassle, it was just a matter of keeping the cursor as far away from the edge as possible when panning and the speed is quite bearable.
