ReggeBrother: Hi i can't activate the DirecX 10 graphics option. Can anyone help me with this problem?
The solution to playing (what i consider the best rts game of all time) is kind of a pin in the but, however this is how you get it to work. As you know if you max out all the graphics there will be two you cannot turn on DX10 and the clouds settings.
To turn on these two options, you need to go to this location on your pc.
C:\Users\Johnny\Documents\World in Conflict (photo is below)
Now open the Game Options.txt file and scroll down to the myDIAGFlag = 0 line and change the 0 to a 1. You will also see a option for clouds right near it that also is set to 0. You need to change that 0 to a 1 for clouds as well.
Then just click file, then save. (see photo below)
Launch the game and you will see now the game is running in DX10 mode and the clouds graphics are enabled.
For the rest of you who still love this game as I do, you can download the free MOD , called the call of duty mod where they have been updating the graphics, adding units, and adding hundreads to multiplayer maps. The last update was in 2023 so its worth grabbing. They have added so many units I can't even list them here, but here is the website which every RTS player should have bookmarked and the page for World in Conflict. I just wanted to include it because if your reading this you still love this game. Hope you have fun.
https://www.moddb.com/games/world-in-conflict Also if anyone does come up with the fix so we dont need to keep enabling it, please post. I know people are saying its not worth running in DX10 mode but it 100% is. Especially if your going to update the game with all the new mods, with the high res new units etc.
Tuskin38: I've tried forcing DX10 by setting the config to read-only, it stays enabled, but I don't think any of the DX10 effects are working.
Also 3D craters are not working either
I'm on Windows 10 64bit and i've not had any memory issues. Not sure whats going on with yours.
you can find out if DX10 effects are working just by checking to see if the clouds graphical settings are able to be selected. Its the only graphical setting that will only run in DX10 mode. If you try and turn it on while running the game in DX9, it will tell you you must first turn on DX10. If your option for clouds also is staying turned on , or atleast allowing you to just click on the small box to enable clouds in the setup menu, then you have solved the keeping the game in DX10 mode.
