The release on here, as with many other games, uses DOSBox. For people wanting an enhanced experience there's BuildGDX, a project that encompasses all major Build games in one place. It runs under Java, and is available with a runtime bundled.

If you're not using 64-bit Windows or already got Java installed you can use this download instead

This has the features you'd expect from a modern source port, such as widescreen rendering at high resolutions, true vertical look (not Y-shearing) and easily reconfigurable controls. No one has made any voxels for it yet, but if someone does that is supported as well.

Thanks! How stable and feature-complete is it?
On a partially related note, Eduke32 and Raze do not currently support WH1 or WH2 yet.

Now the next question is, when will GOG get Tekwar? Hehehe...

Very stable and largely complete civvie used buildGDX in his video of Witchaven.
I'm not familiar enough with the original games to say how accurate it is. I just made this topic so people would know there's an alternative to DosBox for it.
BuildGDX has two quirks that should be noted you don't jump as far, and strafing is slower. Both can be experienced on the first map.

That same civvie video has someone in the comments complaining about how the port is still incomplete and full of inaccuracies, specially compared to some other fan patch/port (coincidently, it's the one gog added to the games).

Ah I was not aware, but the current version of buildgdx which is 1.15 has more fixes versus what he originally recorded with just give it a try and go with what works best for you, right now I am just trying both. DOSBOX is in the lead, as there is still that GDX sky issue

Yeah, I didn't really notice that his video was older than the most recent version of the port, specially since last update was almost a year ago.

I have an old Witchaven CD copy, but I'll probably wait until I get gog's version to try it.

I streamed my way through about 70% of witchhaven 1 with it about a year ago. I ran into no issues.
I still don't have it as I am waiting to know if it includes the Build map editor, but to anyone concerned about "acurracy" I can tell that:

-BuildGDX with Blood feels really good
-Witchaven 1 and 2, on its DOS versions is not good at all controlwise, I specially remember having problems with the bow, so I think that any improvement will be welcome.
I was gonna say where do you install BuildGDX with the GOG version, But i worked it out myself

for those wondering, Install the files to the Original > Game > WHaven folder.
Quick TL;DR since this is a long post:
I encourage people to play at least first level with both Enhanced and GDX to get a feel of the game and only then pick which to stick with. Both have issues.

Long-post version:
I just tried the first level of BuildGDX port after playing 2h+ of the Enhanced version and I feel like port has some problems.

Better range of options for both graphics and controls. The aiming feels much better in GDX, especially looking up/down.

There's some inconsistency with how AI behaves IMO. The very first level features an infight between 2 groups of goblins and in the GoG's Enhanced version you can intervene and they will keep fighting each other. With GDX version both groups will turn on you after attacking them and will ignore each other.

I feel like attack timings may be much different between versions as after playing the Enhanced version I was missing a lot of my attacks. Maybe the cause is the changed FoV though.

Lastly, and it's immediately noticeable - jumping feels much worse in GDX. You have much less air time, much less range and there's this weird unresponsiveness if you press movement forward and jump quickly - you won't jump. For some reason you can only jump forward after moving a bit first.

I won't be playing GDX since I feel like Enhanced is more accurate to the original even if controls are much worse. I can't tell if the jumping will be a problem - there are definitely some areas in the game where you need to jump over stuff like spikes or lava, although you also get enough fire potions for the latter not to be much of a problem.

Either they're in the install folder, or in one of the 3 AppData folder.

You have to set the Windows folder options to show hidden files and folders, then go to:
[Hard Drive]:\Users\<You>AppData

There are 3 folders:
-Local
-LocalLow
-Roaming

Check each and look for either a Ziggurat Interactive folder or the name of the game maybe.

If the install folder structure is the same as Corridor7 and Op.Body Count (didn't check since I only use GDX for WHaven), it's:
[install folder]:\C\ and the save data should be somewhere in there.

However I'm not sure BuildGDX uses the exact same file structure as the original DOS ones, I never tried exporting my DOS save files.
