also aat the beginning if it doesnt detect one you get something saying simulate witcher 2 save & i think i clicked yes, does that mean i missed the conversation where you get to go thru what you did in tw1 & 2?

Marilith01: I would not do that! The import is solely to inform about your decisions in the previous game. And if you do not have the save anymore, I heard you will meet somebody in W3 at the beginning who will ask you, so you can tell him what you decided. This is even more flexible, since you could change your decisions.

Importing the save is just for convenience - not necessary. Simply remember what you did and tell to the NPC.

Aerothorn: What platform you bought the game on won't matter - the save file is the save file. However, it may be looking in the wrong place for it (like Steam Cloud).

Take your Witcher 2 saves (which should be located in a folder called "gamesaves") and move them to the following directory (for Windows 7/8):

c:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves

You should then have the option to import when starting a new game.

yorktown1983: thx i am still very early in the game but i havent had this convo (i am in the village havent completed the first major quest), did i accidently choose to skip it at the beginning?

Goodmongo: Don't even worry about importing a saved game unless you really want that tattoo. Many of the options are completely ignored. For example Henselt and Stennis are both dead in W3.

So save yourself some worry and just use the interview process. it is much easier and gives you exactly what you want.

EDIT: No equipment, money or any other items are imported from the save. the ONLY thing a saved game can give you is that tattoo.
