I'd like to know what you guys think about my setup, and your guess on how its gonna handle The Witcher 3

HairWorks and AA isnt that important right? I still want a great looking game

I doubt HairWorks is going to be important (at least not from what I expect it to drain in performance) but AA can be depending on your resolution and taste. If you are running 1080p or more, I doubt more than 2 or 4xMSAA is necessary unless you have very keen eyes. There are cheaper AA techniques such as MLAA, FXAA and SMAA but they all have blurry side effects so I wouldn't recommend them.

Edit: I didn't see you are going to have a dedicated PhysX card, then even HairWorks might be doable.

hairworks and physx are said to add special charm to witcher (dunno maybe its just me but i rly liked the fur on the bear from the videos) but its also said that hariworks in witcher is rly rly a card drainer. But lets say if ur playing on a 22-24 inch monitor at least to me AA is not needed @1080p maybe if u played on a bigger monitor at 1080p u would benefit from 2 or 4X MSAA but i wouldnt torture my card even then.i would skip AA totaly just so i can get more details from the xml file from the settings to increase stuff that was left OFF when they demonstrated ULTRA at 1080p on IGN plays LIVE on their GTX 980 ,i7 PC

Hey, danteszzz, it looks like you're on every thread about hardware specs! Would you probably help me out, as I haven't read/seen much about NVidia technology for a long time? Does all of the NVidia GameWorks stuff can work on a separate card, or is it applicable only to Physics? I've got 560ti dedicated to Physics, how will it benefit me with TW3?

hey i have no life till witcher comes out and not much even then :D i know u can set a dedicated physx card in nvidia control panel in windows so if u have an option in the nvidia control panel than proly yeah. but since i think that HairWorks can only be chosen in the the witcher 3 in game settings than i supose that u cant dedicate a card for that or godrays or hbao.
ur 560ti should handle all witcher 3 physx with no problem leaving ur main card to do everything else for the game

Yeah, I thought so, just hoped it could do more )) Thanks for the reply, mate!

I can explain this myself quickly. Think of GameWorks as a collective name for NVidia technology on a number of platforms. PhysX is one of the main branches of GameWork, it is a physics solution for game engines, think of something like an add-on for certain engines to provide, let's say, realistic particle effects. It is not integrated to your card as it is a software your card utilizes, some more advanced cards to a fuller extent than others.

One of the main setbacks in my opinion is the hardware restriction as they are only beneficial on NVidia systems, but then again this is how they sell things nowadays.

Thank you for this! Yes, I'm aware of PhisX technology, it was nicely applied in Batman Arkham City in my opinion. But PhysX is all I know from the whole list of GameWorks technologies. Also I know that PhysX can be dedicated to a separate card, NVidia driver takes care of it. What about others technologies, e.g. HairWorks, can it be calculated on a separate card?

No idea. According to this article, it doesn't make any difference as HairWorks is not using the same proprietary architecture as PhysX does, so HairWorks might as well run on any platform with DC API. I'm an AMD guy myself, last time I checked PhysX it was using more CPU then GPU anyway, so I stopped following the project. Looks like it is time for some reading :)
