Hey there.

Another thread of mine, this time it's a problem instead of a question. I seem to get random freezes and I can't shut the game down, there's no audio or anything. Even the trinity combo, which is the holy Alt + Ctrl + Del won't help as I can't see the Task Manager because the game obscures it, yet it's completely frozen. Alt+F4 doesn't work either.

The only way I can shut the game down if I "Sign out" of Windows or reboot my PC completely. Any solutions? PC specs & other possibly important information below:

CPU: Intel i5-4670K @ 4.3 GHz
GPU: Asus STRIX GTX 970 DirectCU II OC
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 1x8GB 1,333 MHz
OS: Windows 8.1 x64
Game version: GOG
Patch version: 1.02

I'm currently playing in the White Orchard village, just finished the contract for the Southern Spectre, or however it is called in English. I'm about 3 hours in to the game if that helps.

I'd appreciate any help as this is getting more and more annoying. The issue seems relatively frequent.

I think you should contact TechSupport for proper answer, but it looks like memory / loading issue.
Try lower scenery and texture options and make sure you have at least 4 GB assigned to system swap file.
I have a new computer. Fully QAed and tested. No hardware or software problems yet i have the same freezing issues with W3. Many folks are reporting these issues on PC. See the reddit and Neogaf forums for verification. Please fix this ASAP. Unacceptable in a released game.

It happens not only out in the world, but also in the menus and whatnot. I highly doubt that is a memory or loading issue, besides, I have the 8GB that is deemed "recommended" for ultra. Thanks for the help, though. Will try the tech support option soon.

Nvidia has released some new drivers for the Witcher 3. So far this seems to have solved my problem with freezing.
I installed the new Nvidia drivers last night prior to running the game.

It usually plays fine, but twice now I've been in my inventory looking for an item, and the game has just gotten stuck whiel hovering over one of the items looking for a tooltip. Music still running, game still running, mouse and keys not responding. I can alt-tab, and I can kill the game in task manager, but this is kind of crappy and unplayable until I guess the next patch...

:/
TW3 seems to be extremely sensitive to GPU overclocks.
Do not go over factory clock, even if it runs stable in other games and benchmarks.
same problem with freezing at gigabyte gtx 970 g1 oc...
SAME here short freezing, than black ... sound continues ...
could kill the process ...

i7-2600
GTX 770
SB-SFI Platinium
16GB 1666Mhz

Newest Nvidea (Only drivers and Ragdoll installed NOTHING else ...
deinstalled Shadow Play etc.)

It behaves like Dying Light some 4 months ago, after 8 Patches, THEY FIXED it ... and idiotic people in the forums told us all, our system is the fault ... strange I changed NOTHING and now I could play 24h in one piece and nothing crash ...
so I am sure

HERE IT IS THE SAME ,,, FIX THAT DAMN GAME
At the moment it is unplayable for MANY of us ...
it is boring to save after every 5 minutes ...

Thank you !

My GTX is a little bit OC from the FACTORY not from me ... even I could change it with a software to slower values it didn't help ...

will try to do it in the BIOS

Not an overclock issue. Really frustrating spent a few hundred dollars to get a good rig for this game to only have it freeze up within a few minutes.

Unless NVIDIA released a new version of drivers today, I'm using the latest version of The Witcher 3 Game Ready drivers. However, I've been playing for over an hour now and I didn't get any freeze, I think I know a possible solution for that and I'll describe what I did just below.

I'm using factory OC settings, didn't bother overclocking it any further as it gives me close to 75 FPS in the White Orchard area.

Now, the possible solution - I have played for over two hours without a single freeze so I am tempted to say I've fixed the issue, at least until a new freeze occurs :) Here's what I did:

Go to your ingame graphics settings, disable Vsync and uncap your frame rates. I've done the exact thing and I haven't had any freeze for over two hours. This seems to be the solution for me, at least.
I have the new NVIDIA drivers yet experienced three random lockups yesterday. One was inside the inn when I used the witcher sight. Another was inside the inn when first talking to some peasants. And the last was right after the fistfight outside the inn. I was able to play for about an hour more without any more lockups.
To all of you who are still experiencing freezes;

I think I might've found the solution. Disable Vsync and Uncap your framerates. After doing that I've been able to play for over two hours without any freezes so far.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I had a random freeze here and there. Bloody VSync, seems it always causes problems.

do you met the game Minimum system requirements ?
If yes Here Your Solution :
1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Crash Fix

Do one or more of the following.

Update your graphics drivers. You can use this driver update tool to make sure everything is in order.
You also might have missing DLLs. We recommend this DLL fixer to make sure you have the right files.
If you have software from LucidLogix installed (It may have come with your motherboard),you’ll have to remove it.
Try reinstal and fixing .Net Framework 4 or higher.Fully uninstall .NET Framework 4 Extended and .NET Framework 4 Client Profile.Restart the computer.Download and install .NET Framework 4 or higher.Restart the computer, set the settings in Launcher Options and try to run the game.

2. Crashing on 32-bit system

To Fix this, you must enable the 3GB switch on 32-bit systems. Here’s how:
For Windows 7 and 8:

Proceed to start -> run and type: cmd
n opened window type command: bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072
Restart PC
In case you wanted to reverse it: bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa

For Windows XP:

Right-click My Computer. Click Properties.
In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
On the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
In the Startup and Recovery dialog box, under System startup, click Edit. The Windows boot.ini file will be opened in Microsoft Notepad.
Create a backup copy of the boot.ini file. Note: Boot.ini files may vary from computer to computer. Select the following line in the boot.ini file: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS=”Micro soft Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect
Note: Do not overwrite any existing lines.
Press Ctrl+C to copy the line and then press Ctrl+V to paste it immediately below the original line.
Note: Your text string may be different from the text string in this solution, so be sure to copy the text string from your boot.ini file, and not the text string included here.
Modify the copied line to include ” /3GB”, as shown in the following example: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB” /3GB /fastdetect
Note: Do not overwrite any existing lines.
Save and close the boot.ini file.
Click OK to close each dialog box.
Restart your computer.
During startup, select the 3GB option. If you do not select the 3GB option, the system will default to the 2GB total memory setting.
Note: If problems occur during startup, you may need to update some of your drivers.

3. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Crashes on Linux

Users have reported that simply verifying the game cache on Steam eliminates the crash.

4. Crashing when saving

This will occur in 32bit systems due to low memory. To solve it, press windows key + R key to bring up the Run window. Write “bcdedit /set increaseUserVa 3072″ without the ” and press Enter. Reboot the PC. In order to undo this change you can bring the Run window up again and write: “bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 2048″ without the ” and press Enter. Reboot the PC.
5. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Low FPS Fix

Do one or more of the following:

Update your graphics drivers. Use this driver update tool to make sure you have all the drivers you need.
Lower the graphic settings in game’s Launcher, especially Texture Memory Size
Sometimes, autodetection enables higher display options which can cause frequent crashes.
Also turn off all unnecessary software running in Windows background, including 3D graphics software and overclocking utilities.
