bhoqeem: Patches? What patches, dnna?
avatar
dnna: Just poking fun at them for releasing a buggy game and patching it up later :P
That's nothing new. Happens all the time or so it seems, Some games worse than others. Fallout : New Vegas was a big disappointment due to the bugs in that thing. You would think that Beta testing would result in a better release, but doesn't always seem to be the case. Makes you wonder just how much Beta testing was actually done, or was it just rushed to release.

Oh, I know, I'm not holding it against them. They did a pretty good job with the patches, we even got a few nice DLCs out of it, so all's good.

Games are usually rushed because of the set deadline and released even when developers are fully aware of bugs. They're a small team, delaying the release to patch everything up would probably end up hurting them financially. As someone said in another thread, this little 'disaster' did good for them since they proved they listen to their customers and care to help if possible.

How right you are in regards to the set deadlines, which are usually unrealistic due to all that is going in to a project. Really unfair to the developers in my opinion. I thought CDPR did a great job in TW1 as far as giving the customer a good experience and value. I was really impressed. I have had few complaints with TW2. Wasn't happy with some of the changes, but adapted and have enjoyed it ( I am in my third play through ).

So true. They did their best to get the full game out and did well, all things considered. Whenever someone mentions evil deadlines, I just think of the unfortunate Tomb Raider 6 - short story, the devs were forced to release the game 9 months earlier for a number of stupid reasons. And that didn't go well at all.

The vanilla TW1 was buggy as hell (I had the "pleasure" of playing unpatched version up to Chapter 4), but they redeemed themselves with patches and EE. That's why I believe The Witcher series have a bright future :)

I got TW1 in Oct. or Nov. '07 and I believe one patch ahd been released. I kept up with the Patches and didn't really have any problems. Bought EE when it came out and played again. They finally released a patch that Uncensored the U.S. Version ( I was mad about the game being censored as others had been released uncensored ).

Haven't played Tomb Raider since "Underworld" ( which I liked ) and that was on the PS3. I remember they had spent a lot of time and money trying to bring TW1 to the consoles, but killed the project. This time they are going with two platforms ( not sure of the PS3 ). Probably the main reason behind the bugs in the PC version. Not sure if you can use one team for multiple platforms and have everything come out as planned. I think it would go better having one team focused on the PC and another team focused on whatever console. The art work and that sort of thing wouldn't be so much of and issue, just the coding and controls.

Deadlines are cruel but on the other side they are there for a reason - so we can eventually see a game released. Without deadlines they would keep on polishing the game, changing/adding/removing things and every game would take 15 years to be done and have a subtitle "Forever".
I just hope that this week's deadline regarding the official forum could be met properly without further incident. I can't wait to register and open my very own thread about...yep, you've guessed it: Witcher 1 revamp/remake.

Heheh.

I really don't think it'd be that difficult to realize, since all the materials needed are already present--including the engine (Alpha Build). And CDPR could even asks for assistance from the fans if necessary, which I think many would be happy to oblige.

At the very least, that'll give us something to do while waiting for Witcher 3 and more profits for CDPR if they decide to sell it as a new thing instead of another free thingies fan service (perhaps, with some sort of bonuses or compensations to the helping parties). They've been rather overboard doing that, anyway.

But first thing first, of course, the ultimate deadline and goal this very week: the official forum! Everything could and may be arranged further from there.

Not likely in my opinion. Probably some bigger expansion like DA:O and then TW3.

Perhaps--and that's the biggest probability at this point, business and marketing wise.

I'm fully aware of my wish-list being the minority here, but I'm a very patient man. I don't care if I have to wait years for it. That Alpha Build engine is absolutely gorgeous for a revamp/remake. I really believe it would do justice for Witcher 1.

I, for one, would like to see the remake of TW1 EEDC in the new engine but in 64 bit. We have now had more than five years of 64 bit OS' and with the talent at CDProject; that would elevate both the game and their company as the first to put a 64bit game (and engine) in the international marketplace.

Consoles I do not believe will ever be able to compete with 64bit games for at least a decade.

One thing bothers me regarding TW1 remake - as we all know CDPR is still quite a small studio with limited resources. Frankly I don't expect them to choose making a TW1 remake over TW3 or TW2 expansion (or PS3 version). I don't think it would be reasonable from a business perspective.
@gregski & aecon:

As I said: I understood full well of these. I'll just bide my time patiently, as I understand CDPR has its own priorities as a company. Whatever might comes first, just so long as there's even a hint of official confirmation about the revamp/remake along the way, that'd be enough for me. 5 or 10 years along the way, I care not. Though I doubt it'll be that long.
Well, I'm broke, but Scampy can have the first thing I find when I get home.

No! There is still timeeeeeeeee. This is going to come down to the wire, though.

Seriously, CDPR, I don't care if the forum has bugs. Hell, I don't care if the forum is so bugged that ants crawl out of my keyboard every time I log in. Please, don't allow Wiak de Scampy to win. That would be like ending your game after evil succeeded in their plans!

Wait... ffffffffffffffff
Release date: May 17th.
Today: July 29th.
This is ridiculous.
