geniusprime: That doesn't add up because Bluray can hold stupendous amount of data and some developers have no problem spanning more than one DVD for the Xbox.
DL DVD holds 8.5GB, and I doubt they would want to release onto just the PS3.

And the last time I saw a multi cd game for a console was one of the final fantasys for ps1.

geniusprime: Well games cost money and developers need money so making the game on the console seems rather sensible. Hopefully they don't shoot themselves in the foot like some other developers in that they botch the PC version for the console version.
Starcraft costs money, as does the Sims. As does WoW, as does ARMA. Even TW1. Notice anything similar between those games? They appeal to a specific audience, and they all do well. By doing so they all make enough money to keep doing what they love. Branching out for the sake of money only is pathetic.

If they truly believe it makes the game better, good for them, but at least be transparent about it all. Of course a console version was always in the works. They said a console version would come out months after a PC release if it were to, who ports an entire game to another platform in a few months? Then again, they didn't need to, with all of these console features already part of the PC's design.

People need to stop being so naive.

maybe they made it for convenience and will fix ours though patches. you know its possible.

but BUT, they should have been designing both separately.

StingingVelvet: I'm not sure what is dumbed down and what isn't, but combat in The Witcher 2 is about a million times better and more tactical than combat in The Witcher. Call me a console gamer for thinking that if you want, but since I have been 95% PC exclusive for almost 20 years I think you would be wrong to do so.

As for the rest, minor shit. I honestly couldn't care less.
It's not game breaking shit, but I'm quickly finding it worse than 'minor'. I think they really need to consider including some decent in-game settings and improving the inventory.

As for it playing better with gamepad, I don't know. Its hard to beat the responsiveness of a mouse. But then it doesn't support my Logitech pad, which is pretty lame.

the reason it does not use your gamepad is simple

it uses Ximput... your controller uses direct imput

ximput is designed for the Xbox controller *consoleitise red flag* by microsoft.

it only shows up in games ported from a console. or newer games that want to make use of the xbox controller.
there's no way around this?

Final Fantasy XIII is spread across 2 DVDs for the Xbox 360.

The Witcher 2 is more challenging, tactical, graphically pleasing, dramatic, and interesting that the first one.

So what if their are a few issues with the game... Did everyone forget that in the beginning TW1 was a mess?

And that over time they patched it and made it a significantly more satisfying experience. Think what will happen with TW2?

Also anyone complaining about the gameplay, did you watch any of the pre release videos? They showed the changes.

yes there is, logitech has the profiler that allows your game pad to emulate the keyboard and mouse.... but that means no analog movement. only analog looking around

In any event, using multiple discs is extremely rare and the only examples I can think of are FF games, so it seems only Square Enix do it?

And I'm trying to rationalise their decision for cutting the game short, my initial post was just speculation.

Yes it is awfully pathetic to try to make more money. You got to hate when developers try to do that. :|

But besides that, no studio is obligated to be transparent about what their plans are with regards to a game to the general public. So you should not feel as if you are entitled to any sort of transparency.

I think you are trying to rationalize the relatively abrupt ending. :P

That has nothing to do with it being a supposed console port, a lot of other PC exclusives use the Xbox pad only. The reasoning is simple: the pad was put out on PC with the purpose of making one all-around PC gaming gamepad. Developers have embraced this because it makes their lives easier, and for gamers willing to roll with it like me it makes our lives easier as well.

*facepalms* i said that
All the OP's points are factually correct. Whether this is a sign of consolitis or not is up for debate, but you can't deny his arguments are false.

Thats partly what I'm saying. If you compare the game lengths between TW1 and TW2, TW1 is much much longer, and also contains more sidequests and additional content eg the erotic encounters. Add that fact to the very abrupt ending then IMO you get a game that looks like its been cut short.

As I said in another post, it feels as if I went to the cinema and the movie ended 20 mins after it started.
