Coflash: Starcraft costs money, as does the Sims. As does WoW, as does ARMA. Even TW1. Notice anything similar between those games? They appeal to a specific audience, and they all do well. By doing so they all make enough money to keep doing what they love. Branching out for the sake of money only is pathetic.
If they truly believe it makes the game better, good for them, but at least be transparent about it all. Of course a console version was always in the works. They said a console version would come out months after a PC release if it were to, who ports an entire game to another platform in a few months? Then again, they didn't need to, with all of these console features already part of the PC's design.
People need to stop being so naive.
Yes it is awfully pathetic to try to make more money. You got to hate when developers try to do that. :|
But besides that, no studio is obligated to be transparent about what their plans are with regards to a game to the general public. So you should not feel as if you are entitled to any sort of transparency.
geniusprime: Final Fantasy XIII is spread across 2 DVDs for the Xbox 360.
untamed: In any event, using multiple discs is extremely rare and the only examples I can think of are FF games, so it seems only Square Enix do it?
And I'm trying to rationalise their decision for cutting the game short, my initial post was just speculation.
I think you are trying to rationalize the relatively abrupt ending. :P
