Actually, the only thing that proved was that others paid more attention to the story than you. All of the questions you're asking have been answered in the game. Maybe consider turning on subtitles if you're having trouble following the story?

To the rest of you: Hasn't anyone every heard of story pacing?

I played many games that have good pacing, this seems not one of them. In my opinion good pacing works like this (for books and movies also):
Act 1 introduce everyone
Act 2 Put the main character/s in a bad situation
Act 3 Get the main character/s out of the situation

more and more I see games (and movies) follow this structure

Act 1 Introduce everyone and put the main character/s into a bad situation
Act 2 Pile on new characters while the main characters are off in some unrelated set-piece
Act 3 Resolve everything quickly and sloppily and then prepare for the sequel

I am starting to feel like this game is more in the second category and I prefer the first

Because you didn't complain about pacing. You said you have no idea why you're doing the things you're doing in chapter 2, when it's actually well-explained.

Just because it doesn't fit into your narrow definition of "good pacing" doesn't mean it's somehow lacking. It's just different, which is welcome to many people given how many stories follow the same trite formula.

Maybe you shouldn't wonder about what Geralt is thinking or what HE would do. Instead, think of what YOU would do. It's a role-playing game, you know...

well in short he needs to help those guys to solve their problems (lift the curse and fight in the battle) before you can get them to help you in tracking down your female companion and the kingslayer, as simple as that.

I'm having trouble in Act2, can't figure out the maps to find the kingslayer hideout. Not sure if it's a bug, maybe it will be obvious once I find it. The minimap tells me one thing but the big map points to another location. wtf!

first open your journal and make sure the quest is selected, then your quest marker will point in the right direction.

when you did the necro magic thing, you already know where it is. you should. the mountain craigs on the hanselt side leads to 3 places, the fire pyre, the beach house, and the hide out. go explore, the map is tiny :( you should not be getting lost.

Ya, I figured it out, it is a relatively small map, but I still believe the mapping/tracking system needs tweaking. Hell even the big map is useless when you zoom out.

Once again this appears to be one of those things where a number of people believe that the game should play in this one specific way or it sucks or is broken.
Amazingly enough there is no such thing as a golden rule that says "this is how every game should play or else..." :)

I would prefer there to be more side quests that take me off to doing different things.

I did not find the way chapter 2 played out to be in anyway confusing. I think the OP is just being a critic of the story/ plot development for it believes it has to in be some way, in art i learnt how to treat critics, you don't, unless they have more experiance than you in the subject they are critising, the OP cannot prove it has a greater game/story development under its belt and so meh.

In conclusion i wish there was more of the stuff you find distasteful, i wanted more monster hunting, i wanted more of the useless side questing blowing up nekker quests or smashing rotfiends in mines. I would have liked less of the political jesting as i did find how i managed to find myself in the middle of every important situation i happened to accross a bit bemusing but there we go i still am glad it was there, i want more..... MORE!!!!!

I have to agree with the OP that act 2 is just a bunch of fetch quests. Now i do understand what they want with all the runing around, and the associated drama. But really there is only so many times i am going to run past the Tavern, as i scurry about on my assorted errands for my betters, (sarcasm does not translate well hence this helpful indicator<-----) before i just say screw it. I think i will go wash my car which with the overuse of QTEs and the retarded combat is sounding more and more fun with each passing minute.
