I tend to ramble, so I'll try to avoid it, but just to let a bit of it seep into this post: I absolutely adored the Witcher (the first one, that is) and so far, I'm having a very difficult time of getting the sequel to grow on me, which is a shame, because I desperately wanted to like it, but so far it's really putting up a fight.

And now to the point. I've only just started playing, but I'm wondering whether what I'm seeing is normal, so rather than play onwards and see if the issue persist, I'm posting already: I'm in that courtyard where you're supposed to fire a ballista, which I think is the first time I might have an opportunity to loot my kills (a feature which seems pretty integral to most RPGs).

But, I can't. Since you apparently have to fire your medallion just to know if someone has got something in their pockets, I do exactly that, and a corpse starts shimmering/glowing orange. Okay, so I walk up to it, and ... nothing. I can't seem to loot it, examine it, or search it. What I can do is turn my back on it for a split second, that'll make it disappear, but there's no loot left behind. However, I do randomly find bags on the ground with orens, iron rings, or cloth, but they're not located in such a way as to originate from any of my kills (although I understand that's where they must be coming from.)

Am I the only one seeing this strange behaviour?
you have to be out of combat. there's a cool down delay after fighting where you can't pick up things.
You don't loot corpses. You have to wait for the corpse to disappear. If it drops a bag or a pile of muck, then that's what you loot.

There is a small delay after something is killed, from when you are able to loot it ( like there was in the first game), and you cant loot if there are active enemies in the area either.

I do recall there being an especially pronounced delay in looting during that sequence, though. It was never quite that long later in the game.

Sheathing your sword can help speed things up.
If you're control over the controls is too shaky to enter the loot zone on a consistent basis, I suggest you walk towards loot, as that will stop you from over-shooting the loot zone.

No one is forcing you to fire off your medallion. It simply highlights interactive objects as a convenience if you are unable to tell on your own.

Loot bags drop where corpses drop. Corpses vanish after you kill the enemy fairly fast. I think you may be a bit addled if you think loot bags are just randomly dropping.

Yea and the prologue is more difficult (kinda poorly done from an introduction training view)

If too much difficulty do EZ mode for a while.
Thanks for the replies, guys.

So just to be absolutely clear: If I hit my medallion and a corpse "glows", then I'm still not supposed to interact with it in any way? (I can't seem to do it anyway, so it's a rhetorical question, I suppose.)

I wish I understood why some corpses glow, and why some don't, and on top of that, why whether or not a corpse glows doesn't seem even remotely connected to whether or not a bag will be left behind.
I find that sometimes the loot does not appear right away, I have to move away for a second or 2 then turn around and voila! The loot bag is there. Now not every single mob/humanoid drops things, and because as you say you are early in the game that may be the case.

But I have a huge problem as I am colour blind (especially with reds/greens/browns) so many times in both the 1st and 2nd Chapters when I kill stuff in the forest environment it is a hit or miss trying to find the loot bag. Using the "Z" or the medallion is useless as I can't see it anyways. So I haphazardly wander in the general area of my kills and hope that the search icon comes up. But there is so much to loot all over the place that I don;t make a big thing of it unless I need it for a specific Quest.

If the actual corpse glows, it's because it is a corpse that was already just laying there and is lootable. I honestly do not remember a single corpse like that in the prologue.

Otherwise, a corpse glowing, is simply the lootbag that is under the corpse glowing.

You are really making the loot system far, far, far more complicated than it is. I suspect you are going to have some issues with a lot of things as you progress through this game.

Thanks also for pointing out that thins *do* seem to be delayed in that sequence, it mirrors my own experiences. Perhaps related to the fact that a siege battle is supposed to be going on. I'm too far down to be seeing what's going on up on the battlements from which I scaled down, but maybe the game is rending it anyway. (I do see burning arrows endlessly firing from that tower I'm supposed to hit.)

The highlighting that occurs isnt a 100% indicator of something you can loot. Sometimes it just a "item of interest".

what are you talking about? the delay is a gameplay mechanism because the loot button is the same as the strike button.
I'm thankful for all the replies. Most were helpful and supportive.

Others seemed to at least suggest that if I had any kind of problem then that problem was likely intrinsic to me. It's invigorating to see that kind of support for a product/brand/company, but also a little unsettling. Like I pointed out, I really loved the first Witcher, and whilst I'm hopeful that the sequel is an improvement in many ways, and regardless is already a success in that's it's a major title released without DRM (an issue very near and dear to my heart), I think discussing its warts should be fair game, and TW2 does have them.

.

Many people here are very helpful, but they've a little fatigued by the steady influx of complaints from people who have made no effort to learned he game, which rewards such efforts. Depending on how you phrase your issue, you might get some people being a little defensive.

I didnt see any problem with your question, although it did skirt the edge of "ranty" territory.

Just remember, things will make sense, and the game will become much easier, as you learn and play it.

Yes, and I prayed for years that they would NOT make us wait for hours again (yes, hours - if you combine it). I cursed them so much for that delay and I didn't believe that this would happen again, for beta testers are gamers, right? Riiight?

Loot button is the same as strike button - why? Even the controller has more buttons than that.
