Ooo.... did you try reinstalling your video card driver? Reinstalling the game?

p/s: The current driver for GTX260M looks a bit old, might not be optimized for this game.

???

The current nVidia Verde driver for the GTX 260M is 275.33. It's as current as you will get for any nVidia GPU.

My bad, I was looking at the Win XP drivers.
ok thanks..i could have sworn i downloaded and installed that driver this morning, i will try gain
So after using using driver sweeper to delete my gfx drive, in installed the one linked, the game booted up fine and i was able to play for 30 min...then boom, crash on the cut scence that shows a elf holding a bottle ..:/
cutscenes are more ressources-consuming than the rest.

Your card being under minimum specifications, I strongly suggest you to run the game in low settings, to see if it runs longer without crash.
I think it may be an overheating, that wouldn't be surprising for an enclosed laptop GPU...

Hey soulfire12,

Your GPU is definitely capable of running The Witcher 2 on decent graphic settings. Game freezing is not related to graphic card performance (crash to desktop might be related to it), but rather to graphic card or hardware condition. Like Fenris78 already said, first thing I would suspect is the GPU overheating. In this case the game would freeze after some time playing. Fresh computer start after a break should allow to pass problematic moments and it confirms this theory, as it takes time in game for the haat to build up.

You can try underclocking your graphic card and see if there's any difference in game.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the late post. I did not touch my computer for close to 18 hours, first thing i did when i turned it on was to try and play and the game, but lo and behold it freezes again, at that same cut scene. So i doubt it is my gfx overheating. Is there any diagnostic program i can run on my system or on the game that might give u as to why this is happening[g clue why?

There is a program that`s simple to use to test your video "card" .MSI Afterburner comes with a builtin diagnostic to test your card as well as over and under clock .

I have under clocked it, overclocked it..nothing helps..i freeze at that point., it is like clock work. maybe there is something wrong with the game files, ( on a good note- the game loaded in about 3 seconds when i overclocked my gfx card -which is still not up to par with a normal gtx260m, i don't know why asus under clocked so much.

P.S: is 85*C normal when i play the witcher2? -gfx card temp

Am I missing something? Your video is an onboard chip, not a card. But, yes, it should run the game at low settings, everything low/disabled.

i don't know what you mean by on board chip, but if you mean integrated, to the best of my knowledge it is not.It is discrete card. Regardless, as Andrzej Kwiatkowski kindly pointed out, i should and am able to run this game with an acceptable setting, during the time it does not freeze.
OK, it's your laptop, but I didn't think it came with a discrete card. You can check by turning it over and removing the plate. You can remove a discrete card.

Anyway - you are saying that even on low/disabled settings, you cannot get past this point?
It may not help but who knows . Do you have the latest June 2010 DirectX as well as the 2010 VC Redistributables although the VC Redist should have installed when you installed the game .

As a resort to maybe help install PC wizard and save a file and attach to your next post . It`s more complete than DXdiag . I`ve attached a screen shot to help you choose the right selections

Just to note it doesn`t collect any personal information only your detailed system secs.
