So I recently fixed an incompatibility problem which prevented me from using XP SP3. I assumed and was told by various sources that SP3 was needed for TW2 2.0 and beyond, I never second guessed this initially.

Well now that I have XP SP3 I thought I could just update The Witcher 2 from 1.2 to the newest patch (3.2) and get to have all the joys of the newest version right? Wrong. Now I get a completely different error. As soon as I try to launch the game from the launcher I get a 0XC0000005 error.

I looked around online and tried removing the /NOEXECUTE from the launch line of BOOT.INI which didn't do a thing. I made sure Direct X and .NET Framework were both up to date; they already were. I searched the GOG forums for the error code and found people suggesting to do a memory/hard drive test. I did and both tests came out perfectly fine.

I eventually stumbled upon this link which has a third party hotfix;
http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/29609-possible-fix-for-the-infamous-tw2ee-not-running-error-for-non-steam-versions

With version 3.2, That hotfix gets me past the launcher into the game where I see the GOG logo and then the boat assassination video. However, once the video ends, the game exits instantly with no error to my desktop.

Anyone have any suggestions for me to try? Computer Specs below;

OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit
CPU: Core i5 2500K 3.4GHZ 4-core
Memory: 8GB(limited to 3.3GB) DDR3-1333
GPU: Radeon HD 7970 3GB GDDR5
HD: 2TB Harddrive with over 800GB free.

There's possibly an incompatibility with that technique you used and the EE. Not sure why you used an unofficial fix from pre-EE since there's actually an official fix here (click). Try that one and see if it works, but you may have to reinstall first since you were messing with some of the files using that unofficial fix.
That link leads to another link which ultimately leads to the 3.2 patch. It doesn't work. I still got the 0XC0000005 error. I tried that patch before trying the unofficial fix.

RagingChaos: That link leads to another link which ultimately leads to the 3.2 patch.
Despite the name of the download, that leads to the 3.2 hotfix, which only works if you're already patched to 3.2. If you thought that was the patch and used it on a previous version of the game, that could be why you're getting the error. The actual 3.2 patch is here and requires those with older versions of the game installed to update to 3.1 first, which in turn requires the EE update if you're updating from an earlier version. Your post kind of makes it sound like you manually updated from 1.2 to 3.2, missing the prerequisite EE and 3.1 updates.

The EE update is huge, around the size of the original game. Did you do that download? Did you update manually, or did you let the launcher update you? Another question: When you said you tried that patch before the unofficial fix, did you mean the 3.2 patch in general or the hotfix I linked to specifically (since they're different)?

Opps. I thought that was just for the extra content. Problem solved!

I previously got all the version updates except that update. I suppose that explains a lot!
