Well, I've had to eat my own words. After a couple of weeks of playing both TW1 and TW2 in Polish, together with my friend who is fluent in the language, it has become evident to me that the voice-acting is just as diverse and brilliant in the second game, as it is in the first. The Polish voice-overs contain a larger amount of actual acting, more frequently adding unique mannerisms and character traits that the English VO*s - for whatever reason - often lack. The result is a larger sense of life and diversity, overall, which is great for a fully voice-acted game. The Polish voice-overs have a tendency to gnaw on my brain, however. It's often very loud, and sometimes shrill. This can be highly annoying in the long run, but what I've come to realize is that this probably has to do with - at least in part - the sound mixing that I've mentioned before. I still feel that there's less mixing going on in the Polish audio track, creating a more... 'intrusive' delivery of the dialogue, that runs a risk of being very tiring after a while. This is only during one-on-one conversations, however. Maybe it's all in my head, as well. I just can't recall feeling this way about the English voices. Hmm...
Either way, after plenty of time and thus coming to better understand and appreciate listening to the Polish language, I can tell their voice actors and actresses are superior to the English - not to say the English are in any way bad (aside from a couple of exceptions), but it's a different league, anyway. It's like the Polish give more of themselves, I guess.
PS: [Spoilers will follow below!] Somewhat related to this, I just need to mention something about the differences in writing. There's obviously going to be some discrepancies between the Polish (which I assume is the original) and the English scripts. Some changes made in order to truly localize the product. Some of these changes are bound to appear really unnecessary and silly, if you know what the original was like - certain lines will simply come off as much more cheesy than they are in the original. At the end of the day, however, none of these changes will make a significant difference in the story or the representation of a major character. I was surprised, though, when I for the first time was able to compare a line said by S, at the end of the game, if you chose to go with Iorveth for Chapter 2, and also decided against saving Triss from the Nilfgaardians. During the conversation, you can bring up the matter of Iorveth and his feelings towards her, upon which - in the English version - mentions that she doesn't feel anything romantic towards him and that she actually finds herself favouring dwarves. In the Polish version, however, she says something completely different, and actually says that while she doesn't feel anything for him, she admits she 'could use a man.' This just blew my mind - not only are the lines so vastly different, but the Polish version seems to go against the whole image she's made for herself, and that she would actually consider going into a strictly physical relationship with him, just for the sake of sexual pleasure. Did the Polish and the English voice directors work with different drafts of the script or something? So weird.
